The atmosphere in the cosy Gielgud theatre was perfect for Oliver. The cast was incredible. By the end when they were singing "you're one of the family", you really felt that you were. We grew up on this musical and it was so moving to feel like 'part of the family'. The children were 100% present to their characters and were totally believable. The adult cast were the same. We felt particularly lucky to have seen Simon Lipkin as Fagan. You really felt his good heart alongside his younger counterpart who was also fabulous, Aaron Macgregor as the Artful Dodger. Absolutely amazing how perfect each character was in this wonderful production. Wish I could go over and over but we're home in Australia now and can only enjoy our memories.

Being from Australia and seeing such a wonderful show. The main actor performance and female actor singing. The children dancing. The voices were amazing. Stage sets were exceptional. I just had a 13 yo child sitting near us that kept getting up, leaving and coming back, and banging their seat each time, without the parent doing anything and it interrupted you enjoying the matinee show. The usher should have said something.

The Performers were all excellent, especially little Oliver in my opinion. The Theatre has a great ambiance as old theatres do. We were up in the gods, so couldnt see everything when they were on the walkway, but we booked late as was a last minute visit to London. Would book lower and closer next time. We LOVED it !!! No Photos sorry as we wernt allowed to take any.

The performnce was standing ovation excellent. Fagin was brilliant and quite humerous, very well acted. Nancy's voice was angelic.I could sit through the show time and again!

The show was one of the we have seen in years, a large cast which makes a change not done on a shoe string, the acting was brilliant by all the actors a must see.

All'inizio mi aspettavo che Oliver, il protagonista, mi sarebbe piaciuto moltissimo, dato che immaginavo avrebbe cantato la maggior parte delle canzoni; sono stato quindi felicissimo di sentire brani corali come «Oompa-pa», «I shall scream Mr Bumble» e «It's Your Funeral». L'atmosfera dello spettacolo cambia continuamente e sembra davvero di intraprendere un viaggio. Anche Fagin è stato eccezionale: Simon Lipkin è un attore molto espressivo dal punto di vista fisico e ha saputo rendere alla perfezione i suoi manierismi. Non vedo l'ora di tornarci.

Oliver Twist, il romanzo scritto da Charles Dickens, è stato acclamato dalla critica per aver denunciato il crudele trattamento degli orfani durante la metà del XIX secolo e per la sua rappresentazione realistica della vita dei criminali. La pluripremiata drammaturga Bryony Lavery ha adattato questa storia in collaborazione con la Leeds Playhouse per mettere al centro della scena artisti diversamente abili. Amy Leach, who has directed The Wonderful Wizard of OZ, The Shelter, and We All Fall Down is all set to direct the production which promises to dazzle audiences from across the world!

La storia

Oliver Twist, nato in una famiglia povera, rimane orfano dopo la misteriosa scomparsa del padre e la morte della madre durante il parto. Oliver trova una casa in una fabbrica che sfrutta e maltratta i suoi lavoratori. Ben presto, però, Oliver incontra Artful Dodger e Fagin e si unisce alla loro compagnia di borseggiatori. Per Oliver comincia così una nuova vita eccitante e avventurosa da criminale. La sua felicità, tuttavia, è di breve durata e si ritrova presto a subire l'influenza del vile Bill Sykes.
