O Castelo dos Mouros é uma fortaleza militar construída pelos mouros na época de sua dominação de Portugal. Ele hoje é decorado com todas as bandeiras que Portugal já teve, o que achei um toque muito especial. É o ponto mais ao norte que tem na cidade, e a vista lá de cima é espetacular, não há vista melhor de Sintra do que a do castelo. No entanto, esteja preparado para subir muitas escadas, vá de tênis e roupa confortável.

Great experience at the castle, great views from the top and lots of walking to do to help get your steps in 😀 we got a taxi up from the town as it was quite a bit away if we had walked and VERY steep! Headout was easy to use to book tickets and they came through straight away. Would use again ☺️

Una experiencia maravillosa en el Palacio y Parque de Monserrate. Los jardines exóticos y la hermosa arquitectura del palacio son realmente impresionantes. El acceso rápido de Headout funcionó a la perfección y nos ahorró bastante tiempo en la entrada. ¡Una visita totalmente recomendada!

Lo más destacado y especial fue poder estar allí y disfrutar de ese hermoso paisaje tan inmenso que tiene el Palacio y el parque . Son joyas muy preciedas y hermosas , lo volvería a repetir. Gracias

Returning here fter 17 years was full of emotion. Last year I arrived in Sintra in the period when the access was closed due to fire warning. But now I've enjoyed in full the visit!

Everything went smoothly from entry to exploring the Moorish Castle. It wasn’t overly crowded during our visit, so there was plenty of space to walk around, explore at our own pace, and enjoy the views without feeling rushed. The whole experience was easy and well organized. Definitely worth visiting while in Sintra!

La Quinta da Regaleira té racons realment fascinants, com el famós pou iniciàtic i el seu entramat de túnels, però l'experiència global queda molt deslluïda per la massificació turística. És gairebé impossible gaudir del misticisme o de la pau dels seus jardins quan has de fer cues monumentals només per fer una foto o per caminar pels senders. A més, la manca de control en l'aforament fa que un lloc que hauria de ser màgic es converteixi en un espai estressant i incòmode de visitar.

Visit each attraction independently and present your valid ticket at the entrance. At the Moorish Castle, enter and begin exploring the fortress and its grounds at your own pace. What to expect

Moorish Castle

Perched high in the Sintra hills, the Moorish Castle was built as a defensive stronghold and still feels wonderfully dramatic today. This isn't a palace visit where you move room to room. Here, the main event is getting up on the walls and seeing how the fortress unfolds across the mountain ridge.

Features:

Walk the ramparts: Follow the castle walls as they wind across the hillside. Climb the stone steps, cross the battlements, and see the fortress from the perspective of the people who once defended it.

Climb the towers: Head up to the castle's towers for some of the visit's best views. From here, look out across Sintra's wooded hills and spot the landscape stretching far beyond the town.

Find the Second Circle of Walls: Look out for the fortress's different defensive structures as you explore. The layout reveals how the castle was built to control and protect this strategic hilltop position.

Take your time with the views: The walk itself is part of the attraction. Stop along the way, look out from the ramparts, and enjoy the changing views as you move around the fortress.

Monserrate Palace & Park

After the rugged drama of the castle, Monserrate brings a completely different kind of spectacle. Its 19th-century design is all about detail, with delicate arches, domes, patterned decoration, and light-filled spaces creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere.

What to bring

Moorish Castle

Wear suitable footwear: Choose sturdy, comfortable walking shoes, as you'll encounter uneven terrain while exploring the castle.

Visiting with your dog: Pet dogs are welcome at the Moorish Castle. Make sure to review the castle's guidelines for visiting with dogs before bringing your pet along.

Monserrate Palace

Dress for exploring the park: Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing, so allow yourself enough time to walk around comfortably. A hat and water can also come in handy on warmer days.

What's not allowed

Moorish Castle

Protect the exhibition spaces: Flash photography, tripods, and filming equipment are not permitted inside the exhibition areas.

Monserrate Palace

Bringing your dog to restricted areas: Dogs are welcome in the Park of Monserrate, but they must stay on designated paths and out of areas marked as off-limits. Dogs must not disturb other visitors or animals.

Rules: Only one dog is allowed per visitor and must be kept on a non-extendable leash. Potentially dangerous breeds must be accompanied by someone over 16 and wear a muzzle and a leash no longer than one metre.

Accessibility

Moorish Castle

Getting around the historic site: The experience is not fully wheelchair accessible due to its uneven terrain and historic structures. However, some areas have been adapted for visitors using wheelchairs.

Accessible areas: Wheelchair-accessible areas include the inner sections of the castle, the Moorish Castle Church, the shop, and the cafeteria.

Parking: Designated parking spaces are available for visitors with disabilities.

Monserrate Palace

Parking: Two parking spaces are reserved for visitors with mobility restrictions.

Access inside the palace: The Palace entrance and ground floor can be accessed via a ramp. However, the second floor and kitchen are not accessible to visitors with mobility restrictions.

Areas: Accessible toilets, as well as an accessible cafeteria and shop, are available.

Moving through the park: A recommended accessible route leads from the entrance towards the Palace, although some sections are steep and are best attempted with an assistant.

Reserve mobility equipment in advance: Manual folding wheelchairs and traction equipment are also available with advance reservation, subject to availability.

Guide dogs: Properly identified assistance dogs are allowed on site, and drinking bowls are available for them.

Moorish Castle

Planning your journey by car: Private parking is not available at the castle. Consider parking in Sintra's historic centre and using public transportation to reach the attraction.

Monserrate Palace

Location: The Park and Palace of Monserrate is in Sintra, about 30 kilometers from Lisbon.

How to get there: You can reach Sintra easily by taking the train from Lisbon.

Opening hours: Please check the opening hours and last admission time before your visit.

Transport note: Transportation to the palace is not included in your ticket.

A place to stop for a bite: Located in the former stables in the heart of the park, Monserrate's Tea House offers cafeteria service, light meals, and refreshments during your visit.
