Great to see the Mosque. It is so busy you can barely move so once in it is static. The guide was great and funny but with so many people around you have to focus to hear everything. The audio system was good. The queue to get in, with tickets, is about 30 minutes so be prepared to wait.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Very pleasant. Always available. Both sites are definitely worth seeing, both inside and out—especially the gardens of the Blue Mosque. It gets crowded early in the morning.

We had been told the tour started at 9.45 and that we should arrive 15 minutes beforehand - but in fact nothing happened until 10am so we were waiting around for 30 minutes. We really enjoyed the Blue Mosque and the guide (whose name we were not given) was informative and interesting (although rather unsmiling). However when we moved on to Hagia Sophia, the ear pieces through which he was communicating kept cutting off, so we missed half the information he was giving, and most of the time he was too far ahead in the crowd for us to let him know. This was very frustrating. Hagia Sophia was a bit disappointing as so much of it was covered up by hoardings on the outside and scaffolding etc on the inside (not the guide's our tour company's fault, of course). Overall the tour was well-paced and we were glad we'd done it - but not as enjoyable as we'd hoped.

Accessibility

Hagia Sophia is partially wheelchair accessible with ramps and special access to the ground floor only. The upper floor is not accessible.

Additional information

Due to ongoing renovations, certain sections of the interiors may be obstructed by scaffolding.

Women must cover their hair, shoulders, and knees, while men must cover their shoulders and knees. Scarves and cover-ups are available at the entrance.

You can bypass the ticket lines, but security checks are mandatory. Security lines may take up to 30 minutes and up to 60 minutes during peak season (June to August).

The ground floor is designated for prayers, while the second floor is open to visitors.

During the five daily prayers, certain areas are restricted to tourists. Hagia Sophia is closed on Fridays from noon to 2:30 pm for the Friday prayer.
