This is where Azerbaijan’s ancient history gets etched into stone, literally. You’ll see thousands of prehistoric rock carvings, dramatic rocky hills, and a landscape that explains why early humans picked this spot to settle. It’s part archaeology lesson, part outdoor gallery.

    What our guests say

Went with my sister and honestly, the Gobustan mud volcanoes were so much COOLER than I thought they would be. Like, the ground literally bubbles! Our guide (forget her name, sorry!) was super friendly and answered every random question we had about the weird mud and the area. The van was clean and had water bottles, which I always appreciate. Not too crowded on a Friday morning, but I can imagine weekends might get nuts. Pro tip: bring a hat, the wind gets wild out there and my hair was a MESS. Would 100% do it again.

So, I liked the volcanoes more than the fire mountain. Maybe I’m weird but staring at mud bubbling felt more real than fire behind glass. Our guide’s English was good but sometimes hard to hear in the van. Wish there had been a bathroom stop sooner, just sayin! Not bad for a half-day out of Baku.

Took the half-day tour to Gobustan with a friend. The volcanoes are unlike anything I’ve seen, but I wish we’d had more time to poke around. Felt a bit rushed at Yanar Dag, maybe cuz another group was coming? Still, fire coming out of the ground is pretty wild! Our guide was chill and happy to take pics for us. Heads up: no food stops, so eat before you go!

This was honestly such a fun day! Went with a group of friends and we laughed sooo much, especially watching each other try not to slip on the mud. The guide was chill, let us take our time. The fire mountain gave off serious mystical vibes. Only thing: wish we had more time at the museum.

Me, my husband, and our two boys (ages 6 and 9) did this tour and had a BLAST! The volcanoes were the highlight for the kids—one of them got mud on his shoes and thought it was the funniest thing ever. The guide handled their questions with patience I don’t even have at home. Van was comfy and we got to see Yanar Dag at sunset, which was EPIC! Totally recommend if you’re traveling with little ones.
