Skip the line to discover the glory of Greek history as you explore the Greek wonders of architecture at the Delphi Archaeological Site and the related artifacts at the Delphi Archaeological Museum.
The Astounding Delphi Archaeological Site
The archaeological site of Delphi is a testament to the modest grandeur of Greek architecture. Visit the sacred Apollo Temple, a building of the Doric order whose sturdy columns have survived the test of time and calamities. The heart of the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia is the Tholos, a circular temple with columns of the Doric and Corinthian orders lining its diameter. You will be awestruck by the Delphi Theater, which used to serve as a center for music festivals and poetry readings. The arched entrance of the Delphi Stadium will lead you to the massive area where Panhellenic and Pythian games were held, with stone seating for about 6,500 spectators. Take a look at the Castalian Spring, where numerous priests and pilgrims took a bath before visiting the Oracle, and contestants refreshed themselves before games. The Athenian and Siphnian treasuries provided storage for the offerings made to the Oracle, and their friezes are preserved at the Delphi Archaeological Museum.
Treasured Artifacts of The Greek Civilization
The Delphi Archaeological Museum preserves invaluable artifacts and statues excavated at the archaeological site with utmost care. The museum houses bronze helmets, shields, and warrior figurines dating back to the 8th century B.C. Sculptures of the Sphinx of Naxos, friezes from the treasuries, and the chryselephantine idols of Artemis and Apollo will leave you stunned. The magnificent bronze statue of the Charioteer of Delphi is a sight to behold, with its realistic features and attention to detail that will amaze you.
