I went on a 3hour Zaanse Schaans tour. Everything was fantastic, the bus, the tour guide and driving was superb. The destination was absolutely lovely but I wish I had more time - forever maybe.

The windmill village Zaanse Schans is an open air museum that houses a collection of working windmills, wooden houses, barns, and shops dating back to the 18th and 19th Century. In its golden age, the Zaan Region developed into an industrial area with 600 active windmills: wooden factories powered by the wind. Alongside windmills, you will see beautiful houses painted in traditional colors such as green, beige and light blue.

Your guide will take you to visit the wooden shoemaker shop and in the cheese farm, you will get to taste Dutch farmer cheese. Then it is time to further explore the village on your own. Before you set off to discover the Zaanse Schans on your own, your guide will give you further information on the Zaanse Schans and its unique character, teach you local history and culture, and give you insider’s tips on what to do and where to go.

Please note the schedule for the different departure points:

Till 23th March: Daily at 1200 PM Outside the entrance of the Gray Line Shop, Prins Hendrikkade 47, next to the Victoria hotel in front of the Central station.
From 23th March till 22th May: Daily at 15:30 PM at the A'DAM tower, overhoeksplein 5, opposite central station. Catch the 5 minute free ferry (buiksloterweg) behind the station to get here.
From 22th May: Daily at 12:00 PM at the A'DAM tower, overhoeksplein 5, opposite central station. Catch the 5-minute free ferry (buiksloterweg) behind the station to get here.
