The monastery is beautiful. However, you have to wait for an hour in the sun or in the cold, very poorly managed. The workers are impertinent to say the least.

In addition to waiting in line for a long time, they didn't allow you to enter the church, which wasn't specified when you bought the ticket... if it needed to be another queue, another ticket?

By buying tickets we were allowed immediate entry and beat a very long queue. That in itself is a reason for buying the tickets in advance. However the monastery is so beautiful and the carvings are very fine indeed. The cloisters feel so peaceful even when filled with visitors, well worth a visit

Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon is stunning - nothing can really prepare you for the beautiful arhcitecture that lies behind the stunningly impressive outer walls. Get your tickets before you arrive, we found the ticket office closed and were lucky enough to be able to book online outside monastery with Headout, which was simple and quick to do. You then have tickets for that, or another, day and can queue up to get in. Be prepared to wait 1 hour+ at peak times, we got in late in the day much quicker, and be aware the queue is fully exposed to the elements (sun or rain).
