My day begins with a visit to Castel Sant'Angelo. Before me, the cylindrical mass of Castel Sant'Angelo rises like a sleeping giant that has shed its skin a thousand times: from imperial tomb to impregnable fortress, from prison to papal residence. I climb the spiral ramps, feeling the dampness of the millennia-old walls, until I emerge onto the Terrace of the Angel. There, at the foot of the bronze sword, the visitor is left breathless. Rome unfolds at its feet like a carpet of ochre-colored rooftops, and the dome of St. Peter’s seems so close you could almost touch it. Then, after a short walk, I reach the Pantheon. I enter quickly, without any trouble despite the presence of countless tourists. Crossing the threshold, I am overwhelmed by a sacred silence. I look up and lose myself in the immense dome, the largest unreinforced concrete dome ever built. The Oculus, that perfect circle open to infinity, captures a cylinder of light that cuts through the darkness like a divine blade. I stop at the exact center of the building. I feel tiny beneath that opening that welcomes the sun (and the rain, which falls here like diamond dust). Between the tombs of the kings and the silent grace of Raphael, I realize that if Castel Sant’Angelo is history in flux, the Pantheon is eternity standing still. It is now evening; I return to the hotel tired but happy. A fantastic day, thanks also to you.

The truth is, it's a really lovely experience, and the views of Rome are spectacular in their own way—the sunset from Castel Sant'Angelo is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

We had a great time, it was a wonderful experience!! We especially enjoyed the audio guide in Greek! It is a must, if you happen to be in Rome for just 2 days. We surely recommend it!!

The experience was amazing and the tour was well done. It was definitely worth its price. My only regret is that it didn't stop near a mall or further monument, but it remains, regardless, a rich and beautiful experience.

We went straight to the tour area and after visiting the Sistine Chapel, which lasted 3 hours, it was a great pleasure! I highly recommend it as a pleasant way to end the day at the Vatican!

A great way to visit Rome, especially for those with limited time. You get on and off at the stops that interest you most, stay as long as necessary to visit your chosen monument(s) at that stop, and then quietly get back on the next bus. All well organized and relatively easy to understand. Only downside, the narration system via headphones, much improvable. I highly recommend it, then if the weather is nice and you choose the above, uncovered part of the bus is the top.
    • Use your 1-day hop-on hop-off pass to check off all the top attractions, from the Borghese Gallery to Bioparco Zoo and even the Colosseum!

    • Stay entertained with free Wi-Fi and an insightful audio guide available in 16 languages on board the open-top double-decker buses.

    • Skip the lines and wander through all five levels of Castel Sant’Angelo at your own pace. Don’t miss the many courtyards and the panoramic terrace.

    • Upgrade for a breezy hosted entry and a multilingual audio guide to know the history of this ancient Roman mausoleum-turned-papal fortress!

    • Fun fact: You can get off at stop no. 6 (on all hop-on hop-off routes) to arrive directly outside Castel Sant’Angelo.

The green tour was nice; it was easy to get on and off the bus, and the driver gave good announcements, but we didn’t get any information about the orange and blue routes. The seats at the very front stayed wet and dirty for a while because some rain had seeped in through the convertible top. The headphone jacks were also broken in some seats. The translation was good and easy to understand.

Castel Sant’Angelo – the chameleon of Rome!

Built in the 2nd century AD as Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum, Castel Sant’Angelo later served as a military fortification and a refuge for popes during the 1527 sieges. Today, it's a National Museum. Skip the queues and explore it at your own pace, opt for hosted entry to ensure smooth access. Consider an audio guide to delve deeper.

The castle features five floors connected by a spiral ramp. Visit the chamber of ashes, historic cells of incarcerated ideological opponents, lavish Papal residence rooms, and marvel at an extensive weaponry collection. Conclude your visit on the terrace, enjoying panoramic views of Rome and a direct view of the magnificent statue that gives the ‘castle of the holy angel’ its name.
