In an exclusive Australian season, choreographer Angelin Preljocaj reimagines Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake from a classic tale of romance and betrayal to a modern-era tragedy. The Queensland Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky’s timeless score live, combined with electronic beats by 79D, in this modern masterpiece.

This is no ordinary Swan Lake. Ballet Preljocaj has created a new, bespoke score, in a work infused with stylish choreographic elements, sumptuous costumes, and dystopian video projections.

The story

Siegfried spots and falls in love with a wild waterbird, Odette, who has been cursed to an unimaginable fate by fossil-fueled industrialist Rothbart. But after meeting the mysterious black-clad Odile at a corporate party, Siegfried is led astray. Will Siegfried and Odette’s journey end in a happily ever after? Or will they be doomed to a gut-wrenching tragedy? Only time will tell.
