From here you can choose your own route through the museum, moving between different regional areas and open spaces. Take your time, as you will be walking outdoors between buildings and animal enclosures throughout the visit.

This open-air site brings together rural life from all over Switzerland in one large outdoor setting. You move between historic farmsteads, workshops, and fields, seeing how people lived and worked in different parts of the country.

• Over 110 traditional Swiss buildings are preserved here, relocated from all parts of the country so you can compare different regional farmhouses, barns, and village structures in one visit.
• Around 30 historic crafts are presented across the grounds, giving you access to demonstrations of older techniques and tools that shaped everyday work in Swiss rural communities.
• Handicraft workshops invite you to engage directly with these traditions, letting you observe or join in simple tasks that show how objects were made by hand.
• Interactive activities for all age groups are available throughout the museum, so guests from ages 0 to 99 can participate in games and hands-on stations instead of only viewing static displays.
• Around 200 farm animals on site live in the open air, so you can watch them move freely in fields and farmyards and see how they fit into historic Swiss farm life.
• Animals living in the open air are integrated into the museum setting, so as you walk between buildings and craft areas you also encounter cows, goats, and other livestock in their outdoor enclosures.
