I highly recommend taking a tour rather than going on your own. You'll skip the lines at the entrance, and the guide is essential for understanding the visit, especially at the second camp (the extermination camp), where there is no printed information. It was a moving and very interesting experience. Compared to other cultural tourist attractions, I think this is the most interesting one in Poland (!). However, we would have liked the guide to go a little slower because the information is VERY dense, and for the break to last longer than 10 minutes because we didn't have time to eat anything or even go to the bathroom. It wouldn't be a bad idea to give visitors a bottle of water, as the tour lasts 7 hours and it's a nice gesture.

I highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking, especially in Birkenau. The logistics were flawless, allowing us to focus entirely on the importance of the site.     The guided tour of Auschwitz was undoubtedly one of the most powerful and educational experiences I have ever had. From the very beginning, the guide demonstrated profound knowledge, absolute respect for the site, and great sensitivity in dealing with such a sensitive subject. The explanation was clear, organized, and very well structured, which helped to better understand the magnitude of what happened without losing focus on the victims and their memory. In addition, the tour was very well managed in terms of timing and organization.
