Ateliers des Lumières

The main hall covers ~3,300 m², with walls up to ~10 meters high, giving the projections unusual scale. Instead of watching one screen, you walk through moving images spread across the walls, floor, and architectural elements while the program plays in a continuous loop.

The venue occupies the former Plichon foundry, an early 19th-century ironworks repurposed as an art center and opened as Atelier des Lumières in 2018. Preserved pillars, beams, and platforms stay visible under the projections, so the building itself becomes part of the visual composition.

Raised walkways and balconies overlook the main hall, giving you a wider view of the program than floor level alone. They help you read the full composition of the projections and can feel less crowded than the central floor during busy sessions.

Hundreds of projectors are paired with a multi-channel sound system, so music and visuals are designed to work together. The soundtrack is a core part of the visit, turning the show into more of a light-and-sound performance than a text-heavy gallery visit.

Visits are booked by time slot, but the program itself runs as a continuous loop rather than starting at one fixed moment. A standard timed-entry ticket includes the current main immersive show plus companion pieces in the same visit, and most people stay about 1–1.5 hours.
