Getting started

Your adventure begins with a transfer from Rovaniemi to the husky farm, where you’re greeted by excited dogs eager to run. After slipping into the provided winter clothing, your guide will give a full briefing on how to drive the sled safely, balance in different conditions, and work as a team with the huskies. No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

What to expect

7km self-driven husky ride

Take control of your own husky team and experience the rhythm of Arctic mushing as you travel across the snowy landscape.

Features:

The sled ride: With two adults per sled, you’ll take turns driving and riding as a passenger. Once the team surges forward, the only sounds are the runners gliding over snow and the huskies’ rhythmic breaths. Covering 7km to 10km over 60 to 75 minutes, the ride takes you through snowy forests and open Arctic landscapes, offering plenty of moments to swap drivers and pause for photos.

Kennel visit & husky life: After the ride, you’ll spend time at the kennel, where the guides share stories about husky training, daily life, and the deep bond between mushers and their dogs. This is also your chance to meet the huskies up close, take photos, and learn about their role in Lapland’s culture and traditions.

Comfort & hospitality: To warm up, you’ll be served hot drinks, Fazer chocolate, and light snacks in a cozy setting at the farm. Your tour ends with an easy transfer back to Rovaniemi, leaving you with the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and authentic Arctic memories.

What to bring

Dress in warm base layers such as thermals, fleece, or wool. Thick socks, gloves, and a hat are essential.

Bring protective cases for your camera gear and keep it inside your jacket when not in use to prevent battery drain and condensation issues.

Sunglasses or snow goggles help protect your eyes from glare on bright winter days, while lip balm keeps you comfortable in the dry Arctic air.

What’s not allowed

Alcohol or arriving under the influence is strictly forbidden to ensure everyone’s safety.

Large suitcases and bulky bags cannot be taken on the sleds or transfer vehicles due to limited space.

Smoking is not permitted inside vehicles, near the huskies, or during the ride.

Accessibility

This tour is not wheelchair accessible, as you’ll need to walk on snowy ground, board sleds, and spend time outdoors in winter conditions.

Pregnant travelers and those with serious medical conditions should check with the operator before booking, as sledding involves movement, bumps, and brisk cold.

Additional information

Pick-up is available from Rovaniemi City Center (within about 8km to 12 km). Guests staying farther away may pay a small surcharge, or you can meet directly at the office.

Please be on time for your meeting point or pick-up as missed departures usually cannot be refunded.

Self-driven safaris are shared between two adults where one drives while the other rides as a passenger, and you can switch roles during the ride.

Very young children (under 2 years) are not recommended to join. Infant and child seats may be provided for transfers on request.

Participants should be comfortable with light activity in snow and able to stand outside in the cold for short periods.

Children under 140 cm usually ride in the sled with an adult or with the guide, while taller children may be able to ride as passengers.
