We were at the mosque around noon, and there was a huge crowd all crammed around the entrances. I would have preferred better crowd control at the entrance, perhaps with separate lines for tour groups and individual visitors. The interior is immense and beautiful, but not well-lit enough to take good souvenir photos.

An extraordinary place, combining the delicacy and humility of Moorish devotion to God with the ostentatious and flashy aspects of Christianity—all in one place! I felt the same way I did when I visited the Grand Mosque of Casablanca, which is sometimes open to non-Muslims!

Dear friends, You simply must see this beautiful, historic building and appreciate the tremendous effort people put into building it.

At the entrance, we found two security checkpoints with body scanners and bag scanners, though the process was very quick. As soon as you step inside, you’re immediately struck by the vast depth of the mosque: in some areas, such as the entrance, the lighting is dimmer, and the forest of columns, together with the two-tone arches, seem to stretch on endlessly. At the center of the building stands the Christian cathedral, set within the Islamic structure: the contrast is truly striking and lends the whole a deeply spiritual atmosphere, almost suspended in time. I recommend strolling slowly, observing every detail and taking the time to savor the historical and artistic layers of the place. A slow and careful visit reveals all the magic of this unique site.

The monumental scale of the Mezquita is impressive. The Moorish stylistic elements, in particular, convey a harmonious and magnificent impression of Oriental architecture. The symbiosis of interlocking places of worship, each with its own religious character and completed in different eras, underscores the special status of this building. The desire to surpass the size and power of one religious community within a single building is evident in many ways through the respective opulent designs. Particularly heartening are the ongoing efforts to preserve the beauty, splendor, and appeal of this great heritage for many years to come through continuous restoration work.
