Escursione organizzata molto bene. Purtroppo ad oggi è ancora in atto la protesta degli agricoltori greci e questo allunga almeno di 1 ora il viaggio. Questo a portato a non poter visitare le caverne. Ad ogni modo la visita ai monasteri è stata molto interessante e la guida ci ha spiegato bene la storia e la geologia dei luoghi. Col senno di poi varrebbe la pena fare una notte fuori e non fare la gita in gionata da Atene; in questo modo si vedrebbero con un po' più di calma i monasteri. Da tener presente che ad oggi c'è da pagare un ingresso di 5 euro a persona.

The whole planing of the trip was perfect. We loved the view we had. The food was good and it was nice to have it already organised so we didn't have to worry about that. The Busdriver and our Tourguide were very friendly and funny. And also the facts that we heard were interesting. We would definitely recommend it. Everyone was engaged in making it a wonderful experience.

Excellent tour! It was a long drive from Athens to Meteora, and it was a safe and comfortable ride. The bus was very clean. Our tour guide Eva was very warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Even though we didn't enter all the monasteries, we drove to photo spots of each one and were given background information on each. 5 stars!

I'm very pleased with the trip. It's a wonderful place worth seeing, but above all, the entire trip was perfectly organized. No stress, no rush, and on time. Meteora is absolutely breathtaking. The monasteries perched on towering rock pillars feel unreal, like something out of a painting. The views are peaceful yet powerful, and every stop offers a different perspective of history, nature, and faith. A must-visit in Greece.

Es ist zwar eine ganz schön lange Strecke, um bis nach Meteora zu gelangen, aber es lohnt sich! Die Natur ist einfach wunderschön. Unser Fahrer hat uns sicher befördert und zum Lunch ist unsere Guide Maria hinzugestoßen. Sie hat uns den ganzen Nachmittag mit sehr viel Witz und tollen Geschichten begleitet. Wir konnten drei Klöster besuchen (Eintritt zusätzlich je 5€) und an mehreren Aussichtspunkten halt machen. Da wir uns für die 1-Tag tour entschieden haben, war alles sehr straff getaktet, aber dadurch konnten wir auch das meiste draus machen. Zurück in Athen waren wir gegen 22:30 Uhr. Vielen Dank Maria für die interessanten Geschichten und Hintergrundinfos zu den Klöstern, der Natur, aber auch zu den Klostertieren und persönlichen Erfahrungen aus der Jugend in der Gegend. Wir hatten einen tollen Tag!

A very enjoyable trip from Athens to Meteora. Our professional guide Dimitrij spoke in a very interesting way about this incredible place. Meteora is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth visiting. The driver and the guide stopped at amazing spots where we could take unforgettable photos. We highly recommend this tour!

What to bring

Bring some cash for entrance donations (€3 to €5 per monastery) and any purchases, as credit card facilities may not be available.

Opt for sturdy shoes with good grip, as paths can be uneven and include many steps.

Carry water and light snacks, especially during warmer months (June to August).

Don’t forget to bring your own earphones and a fully charged phone to listen to the audio guides comfortably.

What's not allowed

While outdoor photography is generally permitted, refrain from taking photos inside churches and of monks or nuns.

Flying drones is prohibited without special permission.

Accessibility

Meteora is not wheelchair accessible. All monasteries involve steps or inclined paths.

If you have mobility constraints, consider visiting monasteries like St. Stephen’s, which has a paved path and minimal stairs.

Additional information

Your tour bus will be across from Larissa train station on Theodore Diligianni Street, in front of Everest Café. Look for the 'Visit Meteora' sign.

Expect to visit 2 to 4 monasteries. Each has a weekly closing day (Great Meteoron on Tuesdays, Varlaam on Fridays), so the lineup may vary.

All monasteries require a €3 to €5 offering per person, payable in cash at the gate.

Tour guides are not allowed inside the monasteries. To continue exploring while inside, take advantage of the multilingual audio guides.

Tours use minibuses or local shuttles to transport visitors between sites.

Basic toilets are available at larger monasteries (Great Meteoron, Varlaam, St. Stephen) and may require a small tip.

The Meteora monasteries follow a strict dress code. Men must wear long pants; women need long skirts and shoulder coverage. Sleeveless tops and shorts are not allowed.
