Join a standard group loom weaving workshop to create a handmade textile alongside a cooperative weaver.

Getting started

Arrive at the cooperative and check in for your Standard Group Loom Weaving Workshop. You meet a weaver of the cooperative, who introduces the loom, the wool, and how the session will run. After this brief orientation, you move to your workstation so you can start learning the basics of traditional weaving on a loom.

What to expect

Traditional weaving workshop

This hands-on weaving workshop takes place inside the cooperative, guided step by step by a resident weaver. Across the session, you move from preparing your materials to weaving and then finishing your piece.

Features

• You begin by learning the basics of traditional weaving on a loom, seeing how the loom is set up and how the shuttle moves through the threads to build your textile row by row.
• There is time to prepare colors on bobbins before weaving, so you can choose your palette and wind the wool onto bobbins that are ready to use at the loom.
• With guidance, you take part in making a plaid, cushion cover, or small rug, working on shared sections that gradually form a finished textile.
• A weaver of the cooperative and all wool and loom materials are provided, so you can focus on practising technique without bringing any supplies.
• At the end of the workshop, you have your woven piece to take home, a personal reminder of the techniques you tried on the loom.
• Traditional Moroccan tea is served with pastries during a short break, giving you a pause from the loom while you chat with others in the standard group weaving workshop format.
• Before you leave, you receive a photo souvenir included with the experience, capturing you at the loom with your work in progress.
