Getting started

Arrive at the Safi potters' village and check in at the workshop of a working potter. After a brief introduction to the space and tools, you join a small group of up to 10 guests at the worktables. The potter outlines the two-hour session so you know when you will be shaping clay, hand-painting, and finishing your piece.

What to expect

Spend two hours inside an active studio in the Safi potters' village, where you move from raw clay to a fully shaped and decorated piece in a single session.

Features

• You begin by shaping your own piece from clay, then add hand-drawn decoration in the style Safi is known for, so you both shape the piece and decorate it yourself in one visit.
• All clay, tools, glazes, paints, and aprons are provided, and you receive step-by-step guidance in Arabic, Darija, French, or English from a Safi potter throughout the workshop.
• The session includes hand-painting and finishing of your own piece, along with a separate gift from the workshop to take home at the end.
• During the workshop, you are offered mint tea and drinking water, and a souvenir photo is taken so you have images, as well as the piece you made and decorated, to remember your time here.

Wrapping up

At the end of the session, you collect the gift from the workshop and confirm any arrangements if you would like the piece you shaped to be fired and shipped later, since firing and shipping are not included. You then leave the Safi potters' village independently, as transport and meals are not part of this experience.
