In the end, it was nice to have unlimited access to public transportation. We didn't take the hop-on, hop-off bus tour. Partly because we thought it was expensive despite the discount, and partly because we didn't really need it. We did find the discounts on other attractions with the Vienna Card to be rather meager.

The Welcome Card does exactly what it's supposed to do. It gives you access to all public transportation. We didn't use any of the other add-on options because we didn't need them.

The 3-day ViennaPass was just great for our stay! We were able to see everything and really made the most of it. We also really enjoyed the hop-on-hop-off buses, especially the commentary on Vienna’s sights! I’ll recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Vienna! The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff on site also deserve special mention!

Which Vienna Welcome Card is right for you?

Vienna Welcome Card

If you want easy sightseeing over one to three days

Choose the 24, 48, or 72-hour Vienna Welcome Card if you are staying centrally and expect to use public transport frequently. It gives you unlimited rides on the U-Bahn, trams and buses while unlocking discounts at 200+ participating venues. This is a practical match for a first-time visit that includes highlights such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Giant Ferris Wheel, the Albertina and a Hop-on Hop-off bus tour.

Pick the duration that most closely matches your trip rather than automatically choosing the longest option. The 24-hour version works well for a short stopover or a packed day of sightseeing, while 48 or 72 hours gives you breathing room for museums, café breaks, and a relaxed evening programme.

If you are staying for a full week

Consider the 7-day Vienna Welcome Card if your itinerary stretches across a longer stay and you want dependable city transport from morning to night. It is best for travellers mixing major sights with neighbourhood exploration, repeat café visits, and day-to-day travel around Vienna.

Keep in mind that the Welcome Card is a discount card, not a free-entry pass. It delivers the strongest value when you use public transport often and have a shortlist of participating attractions, tours, or restaurants where the discounts can add up and save big.

Tips to use your Vienna Welcome Card smartly

  • Start using a transport-inclusive card on a sightseeing-heavy day, not on an arrival evening when you may only make one short journey.
  • Map your planned attractions before buying the card and confirm that they are participating partners, since the card provides discounts rather than free admission to these venues.
  • Group Schönbrunn Palace and Schönbrunn Zoo on the same day since they share the same grand palace grounds and are easiest to reach by U-Bahn.
  • Use trams around the Ringstrasse when you want a scenic break between museums, cafés, and monuments without paying for separate journeys.
  • Reserve timed-entry attractions early, especially Schönbrunn Palace, popular art museums, and evening performances during weekends and peak travel months.
  • Check the exact discount attached to each attraction before finalising plans, as offers can vary by ticket type, tour format, and season.
  • Visit the Giant Ferris Wheel later in the afternoon or around sunset for softer light and more memorable views over the Prater and Vienna skyline.
  • Pair a museum-heavy morning with a discounted food or coffee stop, rather than trying to visit too many paid sights in one rushed day.
  • Use the U-Bahn for longer cross-city journeys, then switch to trams or walking for exploring the compact Innere Stadt and Ringstrasse area.
  • If you're travelling with children, check age-based admission policies separately. Some museums and public attractions may already offer free or reduced youth entry, so you may not need to purchase a separate pass for your kids.
  • Always review the latest activation, validity, and partner conditions in your booking confirmation or official card information before your first journey.
