We loved visiting these two monuments. We preferred the outside of the Pena Palace to the inside. La Quinta is really beautiful, and the trails are pleasant in sunny weather. Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing a lot of walking! Be careful with the tickets for the palace... in the booking it was mentioned that the QRcode was not the final ticket, that you had to exchange it at a certain address to get the real entrance ticket. We arrived early but couldn't find the office at the location indicated. We were worried and lost time. We tried to enter the park with the QRcode and it finally went through... this info should be corrected so we don't go through all that trouble for nothing 😉

As there are not as many visitors as at other times of the year, it is possible to walk through the courtyards and paths calmly, stopping to contemplate the views without rushing. The winter atmosphere gives the palace a mysterious and romantic touch, allowing you to appreciate every architectural detail and enjoy Sintra from a more serene perspective. The gardens surrounding the palace are full of secret paths, giant ferns and trees brought from all over the world. Each step offers a different view. I have a special love for the Pena Palace in Sintra.

My daughter and I visited Lisbon, and the Pena Palace was on our must see list. We loved it! We had a 12:30 reservation and the timing was perfect. We had lunch in the restaurant before leaving. Every room was amazing! The architecture and furnishing details were awesome. And the outside views made us think about the people that actually lived there had that to wake up to and enjoy every day! So glad we didn't miss it!

The prices for the castle and the palace are quite expensive. 80€ for both will full access. You won't save too much buying online, but definitely you will save time for not waiting in the big queue. For the experience, it's worth it but when it comes about the small, important details, I will say is challenging. I will love to see a drink station at the bottom of the castle, some extra bins and extra info. From Sintra centre you will find the road sign to guide you to the castle. It was about 30 min walking on a very slippery, wet stairs, and the extra time for archiving the top of the castle hill. Get prepared with good shoes and comfortable, warm clothes. I love visiting the castles, this was the greatest so far. No time waiting for the castle entry if you brought the tickets already. So you can do the castle in the morning and get to the palace afternoon, depends on the booking. They won't let you get inside of the palace before the booking time. Meanwhile you can explore the gardens and all the surroundings . So many visitors during the Christmas time. Lots of tuck-tuck and taxi around. A little shop is located near the palace, also coffee &sandwich shop. Be well prepared in advance, definitely you can manage to see both in the same time. 🙂👌🏽💖

The staff were so kind and willing to have a conversation with us. We booked a combined access ticket for both the park and the palace. On the day of our visit, we were driving a rental car with our baby from Porto and missed our timeslot due to traffic. We understood that the palace is quite strict with their scheduling and were happy to at least have had access to the park grounds so we went there directly. With it being winter, it was like a secret garden with few visitors and had moody fog enveloping the area. It was truly lovely and the dormant greenery showed us how spectacular the grounds were in any season, really. That said, we eventually wandered up to the palace itself and explained our situation to staff. They were willing to let us into the palace, despite the missed timeslot, which we were so grateful for. We also realized the context of that decision was based on it being a quieter season. Had this happened in high season there is just no way that we would have been let in so we appreciated the opportunity. So definitely be on time, build in an extra 30 minutes to get to the palace through the park, ie if your timeslot is 2, get there for 130 at the absolute latest. It was such a lovely visit and we can't wait to visit again in another season.

It felt like stepping into a fairy tale: you reach the top of the hill, and suddenly you find yourself in front of a yellow and red castle. The whole thing is deliberately kitsch and eclectic, but that's what makes it so spectacular and irresistible. A romantic and somewhat surreal atmosphere, with views of the ocean and the whole of Sintra. It's a shame about the wind and the crazy cold, which prevented us from taking a walk in the gardens.

Pena Palace was so beautiful. Absolutely worth a visit. Even though the weather wasn't good, the palace looked like it came straight out of a fairytale. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
