Visiting the "Palace" of Knossos was an unforgettable journey through history. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and explained everything with such passion that time flew by. We learned fascinating details about the Minoan world, and just when we thought we had absorbed it all, there was a surprising twist at the end of the tour that completely changed our perspective. It left us amazed and thoughtful, needing a moment to let it sink in. Truly one of the most engaging tours we’ve ever had—highly recommended!

A good insight into the history. We were approached by a very friendly German-speaking female guide and took the option of a guided tour to fully immerse ourselves in this historic site. fully immerse ourselves in this historical site. We were guided in a very knowledgeable and friendly manner. The audioguide is a good option but we personally loved it. Many thanks for the wonderful experience.

The guide made the experience another level, a polite person, elegant in her way of detailing everything and taking care of us. She looked for the best places to have shade and to be able to explain it with tranquility, we could admire and take pictures. Excellent, CHATZIGEORGIOU M. AKRIVI was wonderful, I do not remember the heat or the sun that made only his explanations with spectacular enthusiasm.

It was an interesting place to visit. But the audio guide is poor grammatically incorrect at times. Furthermore audio guides are available online, which as there is a lack of map signage on site would work far better buying there.

Remarkable ruins from the past. Pity about the crowds but understand that lots of people want to view what remains from so long ago.

Our guide Katrina had experience in archeology including at the site and could give personal examples of her work. She had excellent presentation skills. Katrina was aware of her audience's needs and made sure we were always in the shade. She encouraged questions and always responded clearly. Thank you for a great experience.

The pictures and their reconstruction were vivid and impressive. the concrete structures from Mr. Evans were a bit weird but illustrative. Therefor a special and unique place for more than one reason. If I had known earlier which app to download, I could have prepared it. So I paid more money for nothing.

A HOHO stop was in front our out rented apartment, and the package includes travel to Knossos. With the parking challenge this was a great benefit. HOHO is a great way to get a feel of the great city when you have limited time. I would definitely recommend this.

  • What to bring

    • Wear sturdy shoes with a good grip, because the ancient stones are uneven and slippery.
    • Bring headphones if you plan to use the audio guide app, so you can listen comfortably while exploring without holding your phone.
    • Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, especially in summer, as there’s very little shade inside the Palace grounds.
    • Carry a refillable water bottle, as there are no water vendors once you enter the archaeological site.
    • A lightweight jacket is a smart idea if visiting in spring (March to May) or fall (September to November). The site can get windy even on warmer days.

    What's not allowed

    • Flash photography is not allowed inside reconstructed areas to help protect the delicate frescoes and wall paintings.
    • There are restrictions on large bags, so travel light to move around more easily.

    Accessibility

    • The site is partially wheelchair-accessible, with a ramped pathway available at the main entrance.
    • If you have mobility concerns, it is best to stick to the main pathways, as about half the site is accessible, and some areas have rough, uneven terrain.
    • An accessible toilet is available near the entrance for visitors with reduced mobility.

    Additional information

    • Expect a wait of about 30 to 60 minutes for the security check, especially during the busy season from June to August.
    • Combine your Knossos visit with the Heraklion Archaeological Museum if you want to see original artifacts like the Snake Goddess statues and the Phaistos Disc.
    • Parking can be limited during peak hours, so plan to arrive early if you are driving or be ready for a short walk from nearby lots.
    • If the Throne Room is crowded, wait a few minutes; you’ll get a much better view and clearer photos when the space opens up.
    • Look out for the Queen’s Megaron and the dolphin frescoes tucked inside the royal apartments. They are easy to miss, but a real highlight.
