Why Watch Il Viaggio a Reims
Il Viaggio a Reims translates to “The Journey to Reims” and is being staged for the first time in Australia. Considered to be amongst one of the most demanding opera performances, Damiano Michieletto gives it a playful twist. It was never intended to be performed more than a handful of times but has gone on to become one of the most widely recognized pieces of music in the world. The first performance was given way back in 1825, and the different parts of the original manuscript were assumed to be lost soon after that. In the 1970s, however, and was performed on the 16th of August, 1984 at the Rossini Opera Festival. Witness a breathtaking performance of one of the most exclusive operas in history!
An unlikely group of characters is on their way to witness the coronation of the French king. Suddenly, however, they find themselves stranded in a gallery. The gallery contained some of the most prized works of art from some of the greatest artists in history. The environment is surreal, and the artworks step out of their frames and come to life the second the lights go off.
