The museum is really well done beyond the important works on display, the whole structure is well articulated, even the bathrooms are exceptionally well maintained for a museum visited by so many people on a daily basis. I only find it dysfunctional, the fact that you have to specify when buying tickets the time of entry, which can create some difficulties especially if you book a bit in advance, otherwise unmissable museum. We visited the upper part, which is definitely the most interesting one

Great art, Van Gogh, Monet, Klingt. Marble room, the chapel. Just lovely. I encourage to get the Audioguides as well. Very interesting info. Two tips: near the shop there is just one BATHROOM but if you go down the stairs you find many and more spacious. It is not so clearly displayed, just ask. Also, in the lockers, remember to get your euro coin back. You need a coin to use the locker but when you return the key, you get the coin back.

The best thing about buying the tickets online is that we went with the confidence that we wouldn't have to wait in line. But there was no entry line to speak of. A few people were entering at the same time we were, but we could just as easily have bought the entry tickets on site and still not found it necessary to wait in line.

The gallery was amazing especially the iconic Klimt. The bonus was the beautiful palace where the paintings were displayed. The gardens too were a beautiful stroll.

    Upper Belvedere Palace

Built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy in the 18th century, the Upper Belvedere was later transformed by Empress Maria Theresa into one of the world’s first public museums. Today, it houses an outstanding art collection across centuries and movements.

    • European masters: Admire works by Schiele, Monet, Rodin, and Van Gogh, along with pieces from the Baroque and Biedermeier periods.

    • Architectural splendor: Wander through frescoed ceilings, marble staircases, and ornate salons that reflect Viennese grandeur.

    Lower Belvedere Palace

Once Prince Eugene’s main residence, the Lower Belvedere blends stately living with artistic legacy. Today, it hosts rotating exhibitions in a series of richly decorated rooms.

    • The Hall of Grotesques: Discover playful 18th-century ceiling and wall paintings preserved in their original form.

    • The Marble Gallery: See stucco war trophies celebrating Prince Eugene’s military victories.
