Main Entrance (Concourse Level)
Located at the end of Bennelong Point, the Main Entrance is accessed via the wide forecourt and steps facing Circular Quay. This is the primary entry for guided tours, performances, and most public areas. The entrance is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps and elevators connecting the concourse to all major venues and facilities. Look for clear signage and staff assistance if needed.
Western Foyers Entrance
Situated on the western side of the Opera House, this entrance is closest to the Opera Bar and House Canteen. It provides step-free access via ramps and is ideal for visitors arriving from the Royal Botanic Garden or Circular Quay. Elevators are available for access to upper and lower levels.
Stage Door Entrance
Located on the eastern side of the building, the Stage Door Entrance is reserved for Backstage Tour participants and performers. This entrance is also wheelchair accessible and includes a dedicated check-in area for tour guests. Please follow staff directions for entry and security procedures.
Regular Hours: Guided tours are available daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm, with the last tour typically departing at 5:00pm. Performance venues open according to show schedules, usually 1 hour before curtain time.
Last Entry: For guided tours, last admission is generally at 5:00pm. Backstage Tours start early in the morning and require booking by 5:00pm the day prior.
Special Hours/Closures: The Opera House is closed on Christmas Day (December 25), December 30, and New Year’s Eve (December 31). Some venues or tours may have adjusted hours during special events or maintenance periods. Always check your ticket and the official website for the latest updates before your visit.
A cloakroom is available for storing small items and bags. Large luggage and prams are not permitted on tours.
A gift and souvenir shop is located within the Opera House concourse.
Multiple dining outlets are available, including Bennelong, Opera Bar, House Canteen, and Midden.
