Skunk Train From Sherwood Road: Guided Railbike Tour Along Noyo River

Ride 25 miles through the Redwoods on a custom-built electric Railbike, with a guided Noyo River route, scenic hike, and one-hour break at Camp Noyo.

Getting started

Check in for your excursion and complete the required participant release of liability and assumption of risk agreement before starting your tour. Meet your expert guide for a brief introduction, then put on a sanitized helmet or use your own. Once you're settled into your custom-built, two-person electric Railbike, set off along the historic Noyo River corridor.

What to expect

Noyo River Railbike route

Follow the Noyo River for 12.5 miles through the Redwoods before turning around for the return journey. The 25-mile round trip combines electric-assisted riding, historic railroad scenery, and exclusive access to a quieter stretch of forest.

• Ride through the Redwoods: Follow the Noyo River through the forest, passing South Fork, Ranch, Redwood Lodge, Grove, and other historic points along the route.

• Cross wooden trestle bridges: Travel over 12 historic wooden trestle bridges, adding varied views of the forest, river, and surrounding landscape.

• Electric Railbike for two: Share a custom-built, side-by-side Railbike designed for recumbent, low-exertion riding, making the long route easier to enjoy.

• Expert-led journey: Ride with an expert guide who leads the group and provides information about the route along the way.

• Helmets provided: Helmets are required for all riders; bring your own or use a sanitized helmet provided for the excursion.

Scenic hike to Tunnel 1 and the Noyo River

Leave the Railbike behind for a scenic walk through the Redwoods, taking you closer to the Noyo River and the east end of Tunnel 1.

• Explore on foot: Follow a scenic forest trail down toward the Noyo River and Tunnel 1, offering a closer look at the Redwoods and riverbanks.

• Change of pace: Stretch your legs and explore the forest on foot before returning to the Railbikes for the next part of the journey.

Camp Noyo

Arrive at Camp Noyo for a one-hour break surrounded by Redwoods and the Noyo River. Use the layover to enjoy your picnic and refreshments or simply slow down and spend time by the water.

• Picnic and refreshments: Enjoy a complimentary picnic and refreshments during your one-hour Camp Noyo stop.

• Time by the river: Swim in the Noyo River if you choose, or relax beside the water and take in the forest surroundings.

• Free time to explore: Stroll among the Redwoods, unwind at Camp Noyo, or enjoy the riverside setting before regrouping with your guide.

• Return journey: After your break, board your Railbike again and follow the same historic route back toward your starting point.

After your hour at Camp Noyo, ride your electric Railbike back along the Noyo River, crossing the trestle bridges and passing the forest landmarks in reverse.
