Did you know?

Seville officially adopted the name "Setas de Sevilla" after discovering the project's architect had trademarked the name "Metropol Parasol" and would charge for its use.

People originally wanted to build a parking lot at Plaza de la Encarnación, but that idea was abandoned when Roman remains were discovered during excavations. Those ruins are now preserved in the Antiquarium museum directly beneath the structure.

The structure was selected from 65 submissions in a city-sponsored competition to revitalise the square. Construction took six years and the final cost was reported at around 123 million euros — well over the original budget.

The Metropol Parasol's trademark amorphous shape can be seen reflected in every detail of the development, from the curvy benches to the sinuous flowerbeds. Even the smallest design elements echo the organic mushroom aesthetic of the parasols above.

Why visit Setas de Sevilla?

Panoramic Views Over Seville's Skyline

From the rooftop, visitors enjoy 360-degree panoramas of Seville, including landmarks like the Cathedral and Giralda tower. Setas-de-sevilla-ticketsThe elevated walkway stretches 350 metres and culminates at the highest mushroom cap, nearly 26 metres above the plaza — perfect for photographers and sunset lovers alike.

The World's Largest Wooden Structure

The parasols are constructed of 3,500 cubic meters of micro-laminated Finnish pine and are marketed as the world's largest wooden structure. Seville City Guide Spanning 150 by 70 metres, the engineering feat was inspired by the vaulted ceilings of Seville Cathedral and the ficus trees of nearby plazas — a breathtaking fusion of nature and architecture.

The Antiquarium

The Antiquarium displays archaeological ruins from Seville's past 2,000 years Andalucia.com, including Roman mosaics, pottery, and building foundations from the 1st century CE, as well as traces of a 12th-century Islamic Almohad house. It's one of the most unexpected and rewarding underground museums in Spain.

The Aurora Night Light Show

In the evening, the Aurora light show turns the structure into a glowing piece of rainbow-hued art. The parasols are dramatically illuminated with coloured lights and music, making a night visit an entirely different — and magical — experience compared to the daytime. Included in the general admission ticket.
