Pro tips to help you make a pick

The full-day Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon tour lasts around 8-10 hours, including travel time, sightseeing stops, and a 1-1.5-hour visit at the Secret Lagoon. Be prepared for a long day with several stops along the Golden Circle route.

The tours depart from Reykjavík, with hotel pick-up and drop-off available. Be ready at the designated time, usually 30-45 minutes before departure.

The Secret Lagoon has modern changing rooms, communal showers, lockers, and a small café for snacks and drinks. Showering before entering the pool is mandatory, following Icelandic bathing customs.

Iceland’s weather is highly unpredictable, even during summer. It’s best to dress in layers to adapt to sudden changes in temperature and conditions. Tours operate year-round, so winter trips may include snowy landscapes and a chance to see the Northern Lights.

Did you know?

Built in 1891, the Secret Lagoon is considered the oldest man-made pool in Iceland. Originally constructed as a public bathing site, it reflects the country's deep-rooted geothermal bathing traditions.

The Secret Lagoon served as one of Iceland's first outdoor swimming areas, even hosting swimming lessons until the 1940s, helping locals develop essential water safety skills.

For most of the 20th century, the lagoon remained a local secret, known only to residents of Flúðir as Gamla Laugin (The Old Pool). This obscurity led to its name, the 'Secret Lagoon.' It wasn't until Iceland's tourism boom after 2000 that it became a popular geothermal attraction.

Secret Lagoon's water is completely refreshed every 24 hours through continuous geothermal flow from nearby hot springs. This natural circulation keeps the water clean, chemical-free, and rich in minerals.

Why visit Secret Lagoon?

Iceland's oldest swimming pool

Built in 1891, the Secret Lagoon is Iceland's oldest swimming pool, providing an authentic geothermal bathing experience. Its rich history, rooted in traditional Icelandic bathing customs, and the continuous flow of natural hot spring water create a unique connection to the country's cultural and natural heritage.

A year-round experience

The geothermal waters stay warm year-round, making it perfect for soaking in any season. Relax under the midnight sun in summer or surrounded by snow in winter, enjoying a unique experience in every season.

A peaceful alternative to larger spas

Unlike the crowded Blue Lagoon, the Secret Lagoon offers a quieter, more intimate atmosphere with fewer tourists. It's perfect for those seeking relaxation without the crowds, surrounded by untouched Icelandic nature.

Perfect stop on the Golden Circle

Located in Flúðir, the Secret Lagoon is a convenient stop along Iceland's famous Golden Circle. It's the perfect place to relax after exploring sites like the Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area, and Thingvellir National Park.

Our guides Heidi and Thor were amazing giving us all the history and information behind each of the stops/sights! Totally worth the money and we also stopped to see the horsies!!!

Can’t believe how soft my skin feels after soaking here! Took my partner and we ended up staying way longer than planned. Staff were super helpful and told us about a secret spot where you can see little bubbling mud pots beside the main pool. Go early, gets packed quick.

The lagoon is EPIC when it’s cold outside, water is so warm you forget the temp. I went with friends, we floated around and watched the geyser shoot up. Changing rooms clean. Pro tip: arrive early to avoid crowds.
