Although the tickets in the app said they could be used directly at the Belvedere Palace, at the entrance the tickets were not recognized. The digital tickets (available on the App) clearly said that it was not necessary to exchange them for physical tickets, as the digital tickets were accepted. After 30 minutes of phone calls to various locations by Belvedere Palace staff and receiving proof that we had paid for the tickets, we were allowed to visit the Palace.

    Walk through Habsburg splendor

Hop off near Schönbrunn Palace and skip the ticket queues to enter one of Europe’s most celebrated royal residences. Explore 22 gilded State Rooms where gold leaf, crystal chandeliers, and richly woven tapestries speak of the Habsburg dynasty’s opulent tastes and political power. Learn about the palace’s famous residents, from Empress Maria Theresa to Emperor Franz Joseph, as you walk through grand ballrooms and intimate private quarters. Outside, the Baroque gardens offer manicured flower beds, ornate fountains, and sweeping views back to the palace, a perfect contrast to the bustling city you’ve just toured.

    Encounter world-class art

A short ride on the Blue Route takes you to the Upper Belvedere Palace, an architectural masterpiece in its own right and home to Austria’s most treasured art collection. Here, you’ll stand before Gustav Klimt’s world-famous The Kiss, admire bold works by Egon Schiele, and see impressionist masterpieces by Claude Monet and other European greats. The palace’s grand marble halls and sweeping staircases are as captivating as the artworks themselves, while the surrounding gardens connect the Upper and Lower Belvedere with picture-perfect views.

By combining these two palatial icons with panoramic city sightseeing in one ticket, you save both time and money while enjoying the very best of Vienna’s culture, art, and history in a smooth, well-paced itinerary.

  • What to bring

    Hop-on-hop-off bus tour

    • Bring your printed or digital ticket along with a valid photo ID; some tickets require scanning a QR code when boarding.

    • Carry a power bank, as live bus tracking and map apps can drain your phone battery.

    • Pack an umbrella or raincoat; many buses have open-top seating, and the weather can change quickly.

    Schönbrunn Palace

    • Wear comfortable walking shoes; the grounds are vast, and even the State Rooms alone can take a few hours to explore fully.

    • Dress for the season: lightweight layers in summer; warm clothing, waterproofs, hats, and gloves in winter.

    • Carry a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect against sun exposure when exploring the gardens in summer.

    Belvedere Palace

    • Wear comfortable closed shoes to manage the gardens, terraces, and longer walks between buildings.

    • Bring a smartphone with the Smartify app or similar for extra information on artworks.

    • Carry cash or a card for refreshments at cafés such as the Menagerie Café.

    • Avoid using personal speakers or making loud calls to ensure all passengers can enjoy the commentary.

    Schönbrunn Palace

    • Drones, selfie sticks, tripods, flash photography, and lighting equipment are prohibited at Schönbrunn. You may only use your mobile phone for non-commercial photos.

    • There is no storage for large bags, umbrellas, or extra clothing—travel light.

    • Pets are not permitted on the tour.

    • Bicycles and personal vehicles are strictly prohibited inside the palace park.

    • Photography is only for private use without flash, tripods, or selfie sticks; some exhibits prohibit photos entirely.

    • Large bags, suitcases, and umbrellas must be left in the cloakroom.

    • Food and beverages are not allowed in any exhibition rooms, but you can purchase refreshments at the Schlosscafé, Parkcafé, and Lucy Bar.

    Accessibility

    Hop-on-hop-off bus tour

    • Most Vienna hop-on hop-off buses are wheelchair accessible, but availability is limited and often requires prior coordination with the provider.

    • Mobile app tracking and live route maps can help wheelchair users locate accessible boarding stops and plan the most comfortable route.

    Schönbrunn Palace

    • This tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, as parts of Schönbrunn Palace can only be reached via staircases and there is no step-free access to several of the historic State Rooms.

    Belvedere Palace

    • The Belvedere Palace is wheelchair accessible, featuring ramps and elevators throughout Upper and Lower Belvedere.

    • Wheelchairs may be borrowed free of charge at cloakrooms or ticket offices.

    • Accessible toilets are available in all primary buildings; seating is provided in galleries, and folding stools are also available at cloakrooms.

    • Service dogs are welcome, provided they are registered on a Disability Card.

    • Although the gardens are accessible via step-free paths, we recommend bringing a companion for assistance, as the sloped terrace between the Upper and Lower Belvedere is not fully barrier-free.
