Do not miss this rendition of the American classic featuring the Olivier Award-winning actress Sharon D Clarke!

  • A stunning recreation of the classic, Death of a Salesman brings out the subtleties of the play from the perspective of an African-American family. It is Arthur Miller’s most well-known and produced play, and went on to win him a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, in addition to a Tony Award. It is considered to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, and premiered at Broadway in 1949, running for an astonishing 742 performances. Sharon D. Clarke, the Olivier Award-winning actress, plays Linda Loman in this production. Wendell Pierce portrays Willy Loman, the salesman who is the lead of the play, making his debut at West End with this role. He is well known for his roles in popular American television shows such as The Wire and Suits and also for starring in movies like Selma.

The play primarily focuses on the American Dream, with the main characters equating likeability to success. Marianne Elliott along with co-director Miranda Cromwell is in charge of the production. The pair is fresh from the success of Company, and are all set to impress audiences with their take on the American classic. Join the Loman family, and live out their idea of the American Dream!

    The Story

Death of a Salesman traces the journey of a salesman and his family and their perception of the American dream. The Loman family find themselves crushed between the past and the present in their attempt to get past Willy’s failing mental stability, paralysing fears and the delusions about their lives. The aging salesman had invested a lot of his life in the American dream but to no avail. This makes him take his failures to be a mortal sin. This production turns the Lomans family a black family, thus changing up the paradigm, and heightening the social drama. His depreciating self-esteem is also amplified because he finds himself dependant on his white neighbour for handouts. Witness the story of this man who easily mixes the past and the present, and has a tenuous grasp on reality.
