The Prague "Castle" is actually a complex with several different buildings you can visit. It is worth paying the ticket and doing the visit to enter the palace, the cathedral, the tiny church and the golden street. It's like a tourist must, so it's pretty full, with some queues and the feeling of being rushed inside the buildings as you just get carried by the crowd. The 20 minute introduction of the tour is quite interesting to understand the history and context of the complex and what you are about to see. But navigating the area and the entrance to all the buildings can get tricky and it is easy to get turned around. It would be useful to get indications on the tour about the entrances beyond a abstract and not to scale map they give out.

The tickets were easy to book online and instructions on where to go/meet with the booking were good. The introductory talk was excellent, very informative and our guide had good knowledge. We would have given 5 stars but found that St Vitus Cathedral had very little information unless you purchased an audio guide. We felt that some general description on boards in Czech and English would have helped confirm what we were looking at. Similarly in St George's there were some boards but they were all in Czech. It was difficult to use a translator on a phone because of low signal, narrow space and very low lighting conditions.

This was a quick and easy way to get tickets. The companay buys them ahead of time and then your look for their blue adn white umbrellas just to the right of the cathedral. They divided us up into groups by language and our guide gave us a great 10 minute orientation to the grounds. He was funny and informative and snet us on our way with all we needed to know to make teh most of our day at Prague castle. We were there from 10:30-3 and had a great lunch at the oldest restuarant on the grounds to the left of the cathedral. A great day and I would use headout again.

We bought the tickets online. We approached the guides with the blue and white umbrellas on the castle grounds to find out the starting point of the tour. And it was actually these guides who described the route to us and provided us with a small map. The view of the city from the castle grounds is magnificent. There is a lot of construction going on at the castle itself and not everything was as accessible as expected. All in all, however, it was very worthwhile.

The castle has four sections to visit, one more majestic and fascinating than the other. The most interesting part remains the St. Vitus Cathedral with wonderful mosaics inside. Also at 12 noon there is the changing of the guard with a small ceremony that I highly recommend. Finally, there are viewpoints from which to admire Prague, its landscape and colors.

We did not take advantage of the introduction, I only picked up the tickets. I think the organization is a bit inconvenient, the tickets could be sent directly by mail, other than that the place was beautiful although unfortunately the old castle was closed. Recommendation.

  • A combo ticket with audio guides to Prague Castle and Lobkowicz Palace is all you need to dive into Czech history without blowing your budget.

    Prague Castle

Prague Castle is a sprawling complex that feels like stepping into a fairytale. It’s the largest ancient castle in the world with grand courtyards and towering spires. Walking through the castle grounds, you'll pass by the Gothic masterpiece of St. Vitus Cathedral, where stained glass windows flood the interior with vibrant colors. The Golden Lane, with its tiny, colorful houses, offers a glimpse into how craftsmen and soldiers lived hundreds of years ago. Don’t miss the Old Royal Palace where you'll be greeted by vast halls with high, arched ceilings and thick stone walls that have witnessed the crowning of kings and historic assemblies. Add the audio guide to your ticket to learn more about this complex’s role in Czech history.

    Lobkowicz Palace

Located within the Prague Castle complex, the Lobkowicz Palace is a Baroque gem housing 22 galleries that showcase the treasures of the Bohemian noble family. Detailed maps from the Renaissance, ornately decorated weapons, and musical manuscripts written by Beethoven and Mozart are just some of the stunning things you’ll see inside. The palace feels alive with stories from the audio guide narrated by the current owner, William Lobkowicz, who shares how his family lost and regained their vast collection of art and history of over 700 years, twice.
