About Portugal dos Pequenitos
Portugal dos Pequenitos is a highlight of any family or cultural adventure in Coimbra. As part of Headout’s collection of unique theme parks, it stands out for its blend of playful learning, hands-on exhibits, and beautifully crafted miniatures that celebrate Portugal’s diverse regions and history.
Portugal dos Pequenitos opened in 1940, making it one of the earliest theme parks in Portugal and a pioneering miniature park in Europe.
The park was designed by renowned modernist architect Cassiano Branco and founded by Dr. Fernando Bissaya Barreto, a prominent philanthropist.
Miniature buildings are crafted at a 1:4 scale, allowing children to physically enter and explore many of the structures.
The park features pavilions dedicated to Portugal’s former overseas colonies, including Angola, Brazil, Macau, and Timor, offering a unique perspective on Lusophone cultures.
Over 273,000 visitors explored Portugal dos Pequenitos in 2017, with around 80,000 of them being children and 16,000 visiting as part of school groups.

Main Entrance (Entrada Principal)
The Main Entrance is located on Rossio de Santa Clara, directly opposite the Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery and near the Santa Clara Aqueduct. This is the only public entrance for all visitors, including ticket holders and those purchasing on-site. The entrance is fully wheelchair and stroller accessible, with step-free access, wide gates, and a gently sloping path leading into the park. Accessible ticket counters and restrooms are available just inside the entrance. Look for the Portugal dos Pequenitos sign and the miniature gatehouse for easy identification.
Regular Hours (March 1 – October 15): Open daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
Winter Hours (October 16 – February 28): Open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Last Entry: Ticket office closes 30 minutes before park closing time.
Special Closures: The park is closed on December 25 (Christmas Day) and January 1 (New Year’s Day). Hours may be adjusted for special events or maintenance—always check the official website before your visit.
