Pro tips to help you make a pick

Book tickets online in advance: Reserve your tickets before visiting, especially on weekends or during popular exhibitions, to avoid last-minute ticketing hassles.

Check which exhibitions are running: Palais de Tokyo has no permanent collection, so its exhibitions change regularly. Review the current program before booking to make sure it matches your interests.

Consider combination tickets: If you're planning to explore more of Paris's art scene, look for combo tickets pairing Palais de Tokyo with nearby attractions like Palais Galliera or the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris.

Allow enough time for your visit: Set aside approximately 1.5–2 hours to explore the exhibitions. Allow longer if you're interested in multimedia installations or guided experiences.

Did you know?

Its name comes from a Parisian street, not Japan: Palais de Tokyo was named after the former Quai de Tokio, now Avenue de New York, where the building was constructed in 1937.

It is Europe's largest contemporary art center: Following its 2012 expansion, Palais de Tokyo grew from 8,000 to 22,000 square meters, making it Europe's largest center dedicated to contemporary creation.

It was originally designed for two museums: Built for the 1937 International Exhibition, the building housed the Musée National d'Art Moderne in its west wing and the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris in its east wing.

It has no permanent art collection: Unlike traditional museums, Palais de Tokyo focuses on temporary exhibitions, allowing artists to continually transform its spaces with new installations and experimental works.

Its basement has a dark wartime history: During World War II, the building's underground spaces were used to store property looted from Jewish families, including hundreds of pianos.
