GroupVerified booking3 days ago3/5The driver was really nice and knowledgeable—he taught us a lot—but the guide didn't explain anything to us; he barely spoke to us at all, except to try to get us to buy a stone (and he wasn't very pleasant)... It took us 15 minutes to hike up to the waterfall, and he didn’t offer to take us to see the second waterfall (we found out later that there was another one). The meal was decent and the staff was friendly. During the meal, some people came to sing in front of us and then persistently begged for money, which wasn’t pleasant. The stops along the way were just places for tourists to shop (argan products, pottery). In short, we were a little disappointed—it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned for a private tour... However, the tour organizer took our feedback seriously and was very helpful in offering us a solution. We thank him and the driver for their responsiveness and professionalism.MMarine C
CoupleVerified bookingJun 20265/5A magical day with our guide Oussman, who told us about Berber history. He was very attentive and accommodating, ensuring we had a wonderful time at our own pace—a truly personalized experience. Incredible places to discover, lovely artisans, a trail accessible to everyone (wear sneakers), the meal was excellent—a must-see that will leave you with wonderful memories.LLaurence G

GroupVerified bookingMay 20265/5We booked the full-day tour to the Ourika Valley and waterfalls, and it was an amazing experience. Our driver, Kamal, was extremely helpful and super polite throughout the day. He stopped at a few places before reaching our final destination, but he also told us he would happily stop anywhere we wanted along the way if we asked. He explained so many interesting things to us that at one point I thought he was also our tour guide! Once we arrived at the mountains, the guide led us along the path and showed us the waterfalls. We stopped for tea and truly enjoyed that magical moment. The path can be quite challenging at times, but the guide was always checking on us and even helped my young son along the way. Once we got back down, we had a lovely lunch by the river. Between the traditional music and the monkeys wandering around, the whole experience felt absolutely magical.
Escape Marrakech for a private full-day tour in the Atlas Mountains, where you'll see Berber villages, learn about argan oil production, and hike to cascading waterfalls—all at your own pace with your dedicated guide and driver.
Getting started
Your private driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech between 8:30-9:00am in an air-conditioned vehicle. If your accommodation is in the old medina and not accessible by car, you'll meet at a nearby pickup point (confirmed by email the day before). Have your booking confirmation ready. Pickup details will be sent via email the day before your trip (usually by 5pm), or shortly after booking for last-minute reservations. Sit on the right side for clearer early views of the High Atlas peaks as you leave the city.
What to expect
A full day exploring the High Atlas foothills with complete flexibility. Your private guide adapts the itinerary to your interests and pace. You'll drive through mountain scenery, stop at Tnine Ourika village, visit a Berber home, see argan oil being handmade, and hike to Setti Fatma waterfalls. Request longer stops at places that interest you or additional photo breaks at panoramic viewpoints.
Features
-
Private scenic Atlas Mountains drive: Leave Marrakech behind as palm groves and red earth foothills replace the city. Your driver pauses whenever you want at panoramic viewpoints where the High Atlas fills the horizon. The road follows centuries-old trade corridors through the Al Haouz Plain, where snowmelt-fed irrigation sustains farms. Temperatures drop 5-10°C as you climb.
-
Tnine Ourika village stop: Stop at Tnine Ourika, a traditional Berber village with a weekly Monday souk. If your tour falls on a Monday, see locals trading spices, produce, textiles, and crafts. On other days, pass through and see children walking to school, communal bread ovens, and stone homes framed by mountain backdrops.
-
Women's argan oil cooperative: Watch Berber women crack argan nuts between stones and press the kernels—one liter of oil takes over 20 hours to produce. Your guide explains why quality argan oil varies so widely in price and how the cooperative supports local women. Taste the culinary argan oil before buying—it reveals freshness better than cosmetic testing.
-
Berber home visit: Step inside a traditional adobe house built into the mountainside, designed to insulate against both heat and cold. See handwoven carpets with patterns that influence modern Moroccan design and low seating areas. Meet a local family over mint tea (watch the pouring ritual) and ask about seasonal routines.
-
Ourika Valley arrival: Reach the heart of Ourika Valley, where the year-round Ourika River creates a lush green microclimate fed by snowmelt from the High Atlas. Listen for water before you see it—the sound helps orient your walk and photo timing.
-
Setti Fatma village walk: Walk through Setti Fatma village with your private guide, who adjusts the pace to your group. The mix of riverside cafés, local guides, and villagers creates lively energy before the hike. Walk slightly beyond the main bridge for fewer crowds and better bridge views with cafés, river, and mountain walls.
-
Private waterfall hike: Your private mountain guide leads the hike from Setti Fatma village (1,500m altitude) to the first of seven waterfalls. The rocky trail climbs 200 meters alongside the Ourika River, crossing wooden bridges. Your guide helps with safe crossings and adapts the pace to your fitness level. Most people stop at the first falls—your guide can take you slightly higher for quieter views.
-
Riverside setting: Relax by the Ourika River where cafés and restaurants line the banks. If you've upgraded to lunch, enjoy a 3-course meal on platforms built directly over the river. Order before peak hours for full menu availability.
You'll return to Marrakech as late afternoon light enhances the red-earth tones. Your guide points out Atlas peaks and drops you at your hotel or a different location in the city if requested.
