Why Watch Faust
Why Watch Faust
Sir David McVicar's production of Faust is set to hit the Sydney Opera House this spring. Watch the grand and theatrical opera, set to Gounod's soaring music, and hum along to the famous 'Soldiers’ Chorus', the rousing ‘Le veau d’or’ and Marguerite’s beautiful 'Jewel Song'. With an exciting new cast, including the devilishly handsome Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Méphistophélès, Ivan Magrì as Faust, and Irina Lungu as the woman he loves, and Lorenzo Passerini at the helm conducting, this production of Faust promises to stun and delight!
The Story
Faust, weary of his studies, wishes to win his heart's desires. The charming Méphistophélès strikes him a deal and trades Faust's soul for a journey through life's pleasures. Faust throws away his eternal soul and leaps into the decadence and debauchery of 1870's Paris. But as the lives around him start to unravel, the devil, it seems, is in the detail.
