Why Watch Cinderella
Travel to the world of fairytales, as Laurent Pelly's acclaimed production transforms the Sydney Opera House stage into a dreamy landscape inspired by whimsical pop-up books. Opera Australia's production of Massenet’s original work carefully balances 19th-century charm with contemporary wit. Don’t miss Emma Matthews, one of Australia's favorite sopranos, reimagine the hit ‘Ah! Douce enfant’ as the Fairy Godmother. The Story
As the royal ball approaches, bringing with it the promise of change, Cinderella's world is turned upside down by the arrival of her fairy godmother. Repressed under the thumb of her devilish stepmother and self-absorbed stepsisters, Cinderella (Lucette) finds solace in the arms of Prince Charming. Their connection is instant, but fleeting, as the stroke of midnight sends Cinderella rushing back to reality. Along the way back to each other, they learn that true love isn't about fitting into a perfect glass slipper, but about embracing who you truly are.
