Walk through 70+ installations that bend reality, challenge your perception, and make for photos your friends genuinely won't believe.
Getting started
The museum is located at Sergelgatan 20, right in the heart of Stockholm, near Hötorget metro station. Show your ticket at the entrance. The experience follows a one-way flow; just follow the signs from the first exhibit through to the last.
What to expect
Optical illusions and perception exhibits: The majority of the museum's 70+ exhibits are built around visual and spatial illusions, each with signage explaining the science behind what you're experiencing.
-
Step into the Upside Down Room, where furniture and fixtures are mounted on the ceiling, making it appear the entire space is flipped.
-
In the Ames Room, perspective tricks make people in different corners appear to shrink and grow relative to each other, one of the most photographed spots in the museum.
-
Walk through the Spinning Tunnel, where rotating walls create a strong sense of imbalance and disorientation despite the floor staying flat.
-
The Paradox Sofa creates the illusion of a body coming apart, while the Paradox Piano plays personalised melodies in response to your voice.
Interactive science installations: Each exhibit includes a QR code linking to a detailed explanation of the paradox or illusion at work.
-
Scan codes throughout the route to learn the psychology and physics behind what your brain is misreading.
-
Staff are on hand across the museum to help position you for the best photo at key exhibits.
-
The Paradox Kaleidoscope lets you create your own visual patterns using light and reflection.
