Pro tips to help you make a pick

Choose admission with the audio guide if you want extra context without joining a fixed-time tour; it changes interpretation, not access rights.

Use the free walk-in gallery tour only if its schedule fits your visit: English tours were listed on Sundays and Thursdays at 12pm, and Arabic tours on Tuesdays at 12pm.

Book a city tour including MIA when the museum is just one stop in a wider Doha outing; choose a private city tour when pickup convenience and custom pacing matter more.

Do not pay extra for "skip-the-line" language expecting faster entry; pre-booking may only bypass the ticket-purchase counter, while security screening still applies to everyone.

Standard admission covers the permanent collection and exhibitions and is valid for a single entry on the admission date.

Advance reservation is available, but on-arrival purchase is also allowed if you do not need a preferred time slot.

Check eligibility before paying: adult tickets are listed at QAR 100, while Qatar/GCC residents, children 16 and under, and One Pass holders are listed as free.

Check the operating day before booking: the museum is closed on Wednesdays, opens at 1:30pm on Fridays, and stays open until 9pm on Thursdays.

About Museum of Islamic Art

The museum's collection gives one visit unusual geographic and historical range, spanning three continents and more than 1,400 years of Islamic art. The experience is not built around one school or era; it moves across regions, centuries, and object types. That scope is complemented by temporary exhibitions, so the museum works both as a core collection visit and as a place with changing exhibition content.

Did you know?

The opening ceremony was held on 28 November 2008, and the museum officially opened to the public on 1 December 2008.

Visit Qatar describes MIA as I.M. Pei's only Middle East project.

The main complex includes a five-storey main building and an adjacent education wing around a central courtyard.

Personal photography is generally allowed with available light, but flash, tripods, and selfie sticks are not permitted.

Qatar Museums states that MIA provides accessibility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches.

Why visit Museum of Islamic Art?

See I.M. Pei's landmark waterfront design

The museum was designed by I.M. Pei and placed on a specially constructed island so later development would not crowd its presence. Its contemporary building draws from traditional Islamic architectural forms and the ablution fountain of the Ibn Tulun Mosque, making the exterior approach and arrival spaces central parts of the visit.

Explore Islamic art across three continents and 1,400 years

MIA's collection spans more than 1,400 years and reaches across three continents. That range gives the galleries unusual breadth for a single museum visit, allowing you to move through different regions, periods, and object traditions rather than focusing on one narrow school or era.

Combine galleries with skyline views and MIA Park

The museum pairs indoor galleries with strong waterfront and skyline payoff. Inside, a 45-meter window frames Doha Bay, and outside, MIA Park and the promenade extend the outing with open views and space to decompress after the galleries.

Visit permanent galleries and exhibitions on the same ticket

A museum ticket covers both the permanent collection and exhibitions. That makes the visit broader than a permanent-display-only stop and keeps current exhibition spaces within the standard admission rather than behind a separate access tier.

Choose the interpretation style that suits you

MIA works for different visiting styles. You can explore independently, add an audio guide for self-paced context, join a free walk-in gallery tour on scheduled times, or fold the museum into a wider Doha city tour when routing matters more than deep museum time.
