We loved it even in the rain. The garden was stunning, nice to have coffee there, and the castle itself was fascinating, beautiful, with historic paintings, rich in history, and we especially appreciated the botanical exhibit with its books open to exquisite botanic art. I can imagine a wonderful opera based on the story of Macmillan & Charlotte.

The castle and property are spatacular! Was the high lite of Trieste! Gardens are fabulous! A beautiful, beautiful experience. Tickets were easy to find on phone and easy to use, was not really busy when there any ways .

Bought tickets to Miramare Castle in Trieste, Italy. Downloaded the free app which came with audio guide. Process was very easy. Even a guy like me in their 60's figured it out. Would recomend using Headout.

Skip-the-line entry and an excellent audio guide. I was able to see that the live guides were not as comprehensive and interesting as the Headout audio guide.

Miramare is a treat to experience. It's a 15 minute city bus ride from Trieste and not crowded. We thought we arrived at the wrong place because there wasn't a long lineup to get in. The audio tour is important We used one AirPod each for the audio tour so we could pause it and talk to each other about what we were seeing. I am not a castle person but this made me reconsider. The rooms and paintings are beautiful and the architecture too. The views from the castle are spectacular and you must walk down to the oceanfront where boats were greeted. The tour let me experience a little bit of what life would have been to stay at Miramare. We were back in Trieste in less that 3 hours (after ice cream) and had the rest of the day to experience Trieste.

It was a great visit but no thanks to headout. The website via Google search gave the impression it was the Miramere one rather than a ticketing organisation. The stated audio guide was not available so you had to buy one for 4 € at the site although in the end we found the explanations in the rooms adequate and to be fair, headout didn't finally charge the full amount so only a very small amount more than if we had found the official website or simply bought on arrival (we could have). The venue is wonderful and well worth a visit. If you can not get in immediately, no worries the free grounds are extensive and there are places to eat and drink.

As you explore the graceful white castle overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the 54-acre park surrounding it unfolds like a living collection of the archduke’s travels as an admiral, with exotic plants and scenic pathways.

Inside, wander through over 20 lavish rooms, from Maximilian’s Chambers to Charlotte’s Music Room, each steeped in 19th-century charm. The Gothic, Medieval, and Renaissance architectural styles blend seamlessly, with intricate furnishings capturing the era. Outside, the park invites you to explore restored stables, delicate greenhouses, and the enchanting ‘Castelletto’—a cozy castle-within-a-castle that retains touches of Austrian heritage.

What to bring

Bring cash with you, as there’s a souvenir shop inside the museum and a coffee shop in the garden.

What's not allowed

Large backpacks, bags, and umbrellas must be stored in the museum cloakroom.

Wheelchairs can be requested as needed.

An elevator is available for visitors with mobility challenges to access the upper floor.

Please note that benches are not located along the tour path.

The first Sunday of each month is free for all visitors.

For visitors arriving by car, the parking lot has reopened as of July 31, 2026.

Dogs are allowed inside the castle if they wear a muzzle or are carried or in a carrier.
