Start with an early pickup from your Te Anau lodging. Board a coach for a scenic drive to Milford Sound, where your guided walk begins.

Walk Underneath Ancient Tree Canopies

At Deepwater Basin, take a boat to Sandfly Point to start the Milford Track. Your guide will lead a 5.5 km walk along the Arthur River, showcasing ancient rainforests, mountains, and waterfalls. Learn about the UNESCO-listed national park's history and wildlife. Reach the Great Gate, a cascading waterfall that plunges into the river below. Cross the large swing bridge and enjoy the views of the fiord and the surrounding peaks.

Back to Milford

Return to Sandfly Point by boat and board the coach back to Milford. Relax and enjoy the scenery along the way, or take a nap after your walk.

Cruising on Milford Sound

At Milford, hop on a nature cruise that will take you to the full length of the fiord and out to the Tasman Sea. Experience the beauty of Milford Sound from both indoor and outdoor observation areas. See the iconic Mitre Peak, the Stirling Falls, the Bowen Falls, and the Seal Point. Watch out for wildlife such as dolphins, seals, and penguins. Listen to the informative commentary from the onboard naturalist and learn more about the ecology of this natural wonder.

Drop off at Te Anau

After the cruise, board the coach again and head back to Te Anau. Enjoy the views of the evening light on the mountains and lakes. Arrive back at your accommodation around 7:30 PM, concluding the tour.

The hike is not suitable for children under 8 years old.

This hike requires some fitness, as the track covers an 11 km distance and typically takes around 3.5 hours to complete.

The average walking speed is approximately 3 km per hour, and there's a modest 50-meter elevation gain.

The trail can be uneven and rocky at times, and wet weather might add some extra difficulty.

Please note that infants and young children cannot participate in the excursion due to safety concerns related to weather conditions and the pace of the hike.

Young children may not be able to stay warm in wet weather, and infants would be in backpacks for up to 4 hours, potentially getting wet and cold without the ability to warm up or keep up with the guide's pace (approximately 3 km - 3.5 km per hour).
