Immerse yourself in Borneo’s ethnic culture

Get picked up from your hotel for a guided cultural tour of Mari Mari Village, a museum that preserves Borneo's ethnic culture. This immersive experience takes you deep into the countryside, away from Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, be greeted by the Chief through a customary welcome ceremony and get a briefing on the village rules before entering. Cross the suspension bridge into the village and be transported into prehistoric Borneo. Explore the five ethnic tribes: Kadazan-Dusun, Rungus, Lundayeh, Bajau, and Murut. From hunting and fishing to farming and trading, learn from your guide about their unique ways of life through traditional house visits, in-house activities, and demo huts.

Upside-Down House

Enjoy a show that showcases unique dances and costumes. After the show, indulge in a sit-down Malay lunch of delicious indigenous cuisine served inside the village. Next, head to the Upside-Down House. This traditional Kampung house is upside-down and has a kitchen, living room, bedrooms, toilet, veranda, and garden. Capture some unique photos to share on social media. Feel free to browse the souvenir shop for local artisan products before leaving. Transfer back to your hotel, marking the end of your cultural experience at Mari Mari Cultural Village and Upside-Down House.
