    What our guests say

    Apr 2026
We took the train over for a daytrip and wow, Mainau Island just blew us a little away. I mean, yes, it’s all flowers and gardens, but it doesn’t feel like a stuffy park. We wandered through beds of tulips (SOOOO many colors, my camera roll is a mess now), and then ended up in the palm house—so humid my glasses fogged up, lol—but the orchids inside were on another level. Our 8-year-old got a treasure map at the entrance, which kept her entertained for HOURS. The playground near the petting zoo is genuinely huge, and has this slide that’s basically a mini rollercoaster. Butterfly house line was crazy long, so we skipped it. If you don’t like crowds, def avoid weekends, but honestly, it was still really chill once you get past the ticket area. Only thing I’d say: food is pricy and you can’t bring a full picnic inside (a guard actually checked our bag). Still, we left with happy, exhausted kids and a ton of flower pics. Will prob come back in late summer just to see what’s blooming then.

Visited with my partner on a sunny Tuesday and Mainau was bursting with flowers—like, every path was a rainbow. We both love photography and honestly, you could spend all day just snapping pics of tulips and cherry blossoms. The butterfly house was fun but super humid (my hair went full frizz, be warned). Staff were nice but seemed rushed, not much time to ask questions about the plants. Lunch at the cafe was okay, nothing special, but the views over the lake from the terrace are EPIC. Wouldn’t recommend coming on a rainy day though, you need the sunshine for the full effect. Oh, also—no dogs allowed, which was a bummer for us. Still, a lovely way to spend a day.

Mainau Island is honestly a little paradise for plant lovers! Came with my girlfriend and neither of us are huge garden people but we got sucked in. The tulips were all in bloom (soooo many colors it’s wild), and the whole place smells amazing. The castle wasn’t open for tours, which was a bit disappointing, but we made up for it by just sitting by the lake and snacking on pretzels. Shoutout to the playground area—it’s massive and actually fun even for grownups, haha. Fair warning: get there early if you want to avoid the worst crowds. Would totally come again.

Went with my two best friends for a girls’ day out. We LOVED the palm house, honestly just wanted to sit there and breathe in the flowery air. The dino exhibition was kinda tiny (just a handful of dinos, not really worth the hype), but the rest of the island made up for it. We got lost in the rose garden for a bit and ended up with so many selfies. A bit tricky to find seats at the cafes, but we found a quiet spot by the water to chill. Def worth a visit if you’re a flower fan.

We went as a family of four (kids 5 and 9), and honestly Mainau Island is super for kids. There’s this huge playground with weird climbing stuff and a little petting zoo, which my youngest adored. The palm house was beautiful but crowded—like, elbow-to-elbow in some spots. We skipped the butterfly house because the line was insane. Food is pricey, but the ice cream stand by the lake was worth it. Would recommend going early or late to skip the crowds.
