The Capitoline Museum is full of excellent exhibits that you must see, "Aurelius on horseback" & "the she-wolf with Romulus & Remus" to name but two. Make sure you go undergroiund to get to the building across the Piazza - it's not completely obvious that you have done that (note to museum, sign post this so it is more obvious?) The cafe & the views over Rome are a great break if your legs are aching!

The exhibits were fascinating and provided an insight into the people of the time and all they achieved - quite extraordinary. It gave the opportunity to see and feel history that no book can properly explain. It was a shame the building is covered in scaffolding as it made it difficult to find the entry. However it will be good to see this beautiful building once it is restored.

Auf dem Gutscheine war nicht eindeutig sichtbar dass das kein Ticket ist sondern den soll man woanders holen, zudem waren die Tickets mehr als doppelt so teuer als in der Museum selbst(15€ pro Person ich habe 38€ bezahlt 😉) die Animation war zu dem Ticket angeboten wurde hat den Preis unterschied nicht gerechtfertigt 😔

We marvelled at the exquisite exhibits, well presented in an uncrowded setting. The staff were very helpful and enabled us to have a worthwhile visit despite limited time available

Capitoline Museums

The Capitoline Museums, the world’s first public museum, house a vast collection of Roman art and artifacts across three grand palazzos: Palazzo dei Conservatori, Palazzo Nuovo, and Palazzo Senatorio.

Features

It is the world’s first public museum. Established in 1471, it showcases Rome’s rich history.

It includes the legendary bronze she-wolf (Lupa Capitolina) and the colossal statue of Constantine.

It houses works by Caravaggio, Titian, and Rubens.

It currently hosts the Cartier and Myth exhibition (running until March 15, 2026) at Palazzo Nuovo, curated by jewelry historian Bianca Cappello, archaeologist Stéphane Verger, and Capitoline Superintendent Claudio Parisi Presicce.
