The monastery was amazing and well worth a visit, with beautiful buildings and history. The queue was quite long, which was fine, however there were three separate queues and no signage to say what they were for until you got to the front. We therefore queued for 30 mins to be told rather rudely that we were in the wrong one, so we had to join another queue for another 40 mins. The security/entry staff were brusque and barely communicated, which spoilt the shortened until we were finally able to get inside.

Loved the monastery architecture. Didn't like the way the entry queue was managed- we were there in our queue at 10.30am promptly , but lots of large groups were allowed in ahead of us ( hundreds of people) possibly tour buses or student parties, meaning those with prebooked tickets got soaked in very heavy rain.

Monastery very interesting. One major problem though. I purchased online tickets without having to download the head out app. But then to retrieve tickets it stated I had to download the app however I couldn't download as phone needed to be a more recent iOS . Luckily they allowed us in at monastery after a while.

El monasterio es hermoso, aunque compramos los boletos con anticipación, tuvimos que hacer alrededor de 30 min de fila, pero toda la información fue clara y estuvo bien organizado. El lugar vale muchísimo la pena. Encontramos parking en el museo de arte contemporánea que está justo a un costado.

The place was just mesmerising, it was my first time in Lisbon and my first time in the Monastery. It was an incredible experience. The building itself is breathtaking, but I also liked how I got handled at the entrance - the person letting me in and out was nice and polite. There also wasn't much queuing. Directions inside the Monastery were clear, toilets were kept clean, the place looked well taken care of. I visited the Monastery at the end of November, so it was obvious to me that it wasn't gonna be very crowded, but it was a nice surprise still. I suggest that people who would like to properly enjoy the place without raging crowds choose "off-season" sightseeing in the Monastery. Overall, I'd rate my visit 5/5 stars.

We had an extremely easy entry and experience at the monestary. The staff were helpful a the site was impressive. Very pleasant afternoon. A quick and wonderful visit. The church was beautiful as well

Additional information

Maritime Museum Lisbon

The museum operates daily from 10am to 5pm and is closed on Jan 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, and Dec 25.

Free entry is available until 2pm on the first Sunday of every month, on Navy Day, Apr 18, May 18, and Nov 16.

Children aged 12 and under enjoy free entry on Children's Day (June 1).

The museum can be very busy during peak hours; arrive early and book tickets online in advance for a smoother experience.

Jerónimos Monastery

Keep in mind that the Church of Santa Maria is closed on Mondays and on select holidays (Jan 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, June 13, and Dec 25). You can enter the church between 10:30am and 5pm from Tuesday to Saturday, or from 2pm to 5pm on Sundays and religious holidays.

The church is part of Jerónimos Monastery and offers free entry, but you must join a separate line to enter.

The monastery is a popular attraction, and wait times can stretch to 2 hours during peak hours. Arrive early and book tickets online in advance.

The Jerónimos Monastery is closed on Mondays, Jan 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, and Dec 25.
