The monuments are steeped in history. The Capitoline used to be the epicenter of the ancient Roman empire. In the 16th century, it was transformed into what we see today, courtesy of Michelangelo. St. Peter's Square, right at the feet of one of the holiest sites of Christianity, is counted among one of the largest and the most beautiful squares in the world.
