Firstly, it's the only steam powered paddle steamer operating out of New Orleans. So it's both historic and authentic. Secondly, it's a really relaxing and good way to see and learn more about the city - and you get some really good views of the city skyline. So that all makes it a worthwhile excursion. Recommended.

The band playing jazz was awesome! I certainly learned more about New Orleans and surrounding areas as well as the activity at the New Orleans port. Staff was friendly and very accomodating. Great experience.

Drinks at bar. While standing in line to board the music was so loud that my phone told me to leave that there over 90 decibels in the area. My ears have been ringing ever sense. My lawyer will be in touch.

The timing is perfect, while loading and waiting for departure you get to explore this beautiful ship. During this time you hear the live jazz band playing on the upper deck, where you can sit and enjoy the music while watching ships of all kinds pull into port. After departure you get to hear stories and history about the area while the cool breeze pushes away the heat from earlier that day. The sun drops on the way back and the lights from Louisiana's night life can be seen in the distance. To the south you see a bridge lit up with purplish blue lights. As you turn the corner everything comes into view. It's magnificent, the ships ,the small waves and music fills the air. We will definitely take this tour again..

Fabulous experience on the evening cruise with live jazz. We had the opportunity to view the engine room and boiler room seeing the intricacies of the boat at work. Great to see the sights of the Mississippi and hear more about the general area as part of the commentary. Would recommend if you're visiting New Orleans.

I loved how unique the whole experience was! From the very start Miss Caliope was a delight, then live jazz on the cruise was a phenomenal. I ended up buying a CD and listen to it on regular basis, reminding me of this amazing trip to celebrate my sister's 50 th birthday. Well done!

I learned some about NO. I do feel the person narrating needs to be an entertainer and not just read the script. Your patrons will learn more and tell friends to sail the river and listen to story of NO.

We went on the 7-9 PM cruise and seeing the city at night was fun. I would recommend sitting on the side facing the city if you want to see the sites pointed out by the guide.

Cruise the mighty Mississippi for two hours, with live jazz, signature drinks, and incredible New Orleans scenery—especially from the newly enhanced top deck. After a brief introduction, you’re free to explore the vessel and settle in for departure.

What to expect

This vessel continues the tradition of classic river cruising, offering a unique perspective on New Orleans’ riverfront and history.

Live Jazz music: Musicians will perform traditional jazz onboard, a hallmark of New Orleans culture and a highlight of every cruise.

Panoramic River views: Enjoy sweeping views of the Mississippi River and the city skyline from multiple decks as you cruise past popular New Orleans sites, including the Crescent City Connection and St. Louis Cathedral.

What to bring

Shirts and shoes are required on all cruises. While casual attire is fine, we recommend you turn up in “dressy casual” for the Dinner Jazz Cruise. Switch your jeans for some dress pants or a skirt and a blouse or a stylish top. Men can zhuzh it up with a collared shirt (button-down or polo).

What's not allowed

This vessel is completely non-smoking, including all indoor areas and outer decks.

Accessibility

This experience is wheelchair and pram/stroller accessible.

Your guide dogs are welcome at the venue.

Additional Information

Depending on demand and private events, the Steamboat NATCHEZ and Riverboat CITY of NEW ORLEANS will operate interchangeably until March 2026, when both vessels begin running separate schedules. You’ll still enjoy the same two-hour river journey, complete with traditional live jazz, craft cocktails, and beautiful city views. Don’t forget to head up to the top deck for the best lookout point.

Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early.

Those 21 years and older may purchase beverages after presenting a valid photo ID with birthdate as per Louisiana law.
