L'esperienza non è partita subito nel migliore dei modi perché raggiunto il punto d'incontro con la guida abbiamo scoperto che il duomo non sarebbe stato aperto durante la nostra visita quindi un po' contrariati abbiamo fatto notare all'agenzia che avevamo prenotato e pagato per un tour che comprendeva anche l'interno del duomo. A quel punto si sono riorganizzati e ci hanno offerto la visita al museo del duomo e la salita alla torre del campanile di Giotto riprogrammando per un altro momento la visita all'interno del duomo che ha incluso anche la visita al battistero. Insomma da un apparente disservizio iniziale l'esperienza si e' trasformata in un percorso completo ed esaustivo su tutto il complesso della cattedrale. I complimenti vanno anche alla nostra guida. Professionale e molto preparata. Grazie

The Duomo square offers a stunning view, especially at the end of the day when the sun's rays illuminate the polychrome marble of the buildings that form the religious complex. In fact, the chromatic homogeneity (green, white and red) beautifully harmonizes a stylistic variety. The differences in style can be understood by viewing the construction work that’s been in motion for about four centuries now. From the middle of the 11th century – when the work on the Baptistery started – until the middle of the 15th century when the dome of the Duomo was completed by Filippo Brunelleschi, its imposing size dominates the entire square.

Begin your tour to the religious centre of Florence starts with the Baptistery. With your licensed guide, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the stunning interior Byzantine mosaics of the vault while viewing the exteriors of the masterpiece by Lorenzo Ghiberti – the east door of the Baptistery commonly called 'the Gate of Paradise'. The final part of the tour will take you to the Museum of Opera del Duomo where you’ll be able to appreciate up-close the incredibly artistic work of the religious complex including ‘La Pietà’ by Michelangelo amongst many others.

What to bring

It's recommended to cover shoulders and knees as the tour includes visiting places of worship, along with comfortable walking shoes.

This experience is accessible by wheelchair and pram/stroller.

What's not allowed

Strict dress code: Bare-shoulder and sheath dresses, drawstring and tank tops are not permitted. Necklines that are too obvious must be avoided. Shorts and skirts that end above the knee are not allowed.

Note that the following are not allowed on this tour: tripod, flash photography, backpacks.

Additional information

Baptistery: Please note that the Baptistery's vault mosaics are currently under restoration and are not visible. The Baptistery closes at 2pm every first Sunday of the month.

Opera del Duomo Museum: The museum is closed every first Tuesday of the month.
