The booking process was great but the time to get started was much longer than expected. 45 minutes buffer between bookings turned into a sprint to make the next tour in 10 minutes. A heads up that times may vary or delays are common would be great for planning a more successful day.

Die Führung hat sich echt gelohnt, allles war top organisiert, vor allem der Zutritt zum Dom ohne Wartezeit, und natürlich ist die Besteigung der Domkuppel ein echtes Erlebnis. Die Ausführungen des Guides waren gut verständlich, nicht zu viel und auch nicht zu wenig.

Een goede gids met een klein groepje in een prachtige kerk. Het was heel duidelijk waar we naar toe moesten en werden daar verder geholpen. De rondleiding met een eigen oortje was heel handig. Goed te verstaan de gids en ook heel vriendelijk. Heel fijn

Loved skipping the queue, our guide seemed to love her job, was very informed & was good at keeping us together. We were surprised that the tour was shorter than expected, although I'm aware one can only absorb so much, but thought the descriptions of the images in the dome could have had more said about its stories.

Es war eine gut erklärte und verständliche Tour, durch das Baptisterium und das Museum geführt, die Kuppel dann alleine erkundet. Wirklich gut organisiert, wir müssten nur leider ziemlich schnell laufen und unseren Rucksack etwas entfernt abgeben. Sonst waren aber auch die Toilettenpausen sehr gut.

What to bring

A valid photo ID is required to collect your entry pass and audio devices (if applicable).

What’s not allowed

Please note that entry is subject to a dress code. Shoulders and knees must be covered, and sandals, hats, or sunglasses are not permitted inside.

Flash photography is prohibited inside all monuments.

Large bags and backpacks are not allowed inside the Complex. Please remember that there are no cloakrooms at the site.

Accessibility

Ramps available at the Cathedral, Baptistery, Museum, and Santa Reparata.

Dome and Bell Tower are not wheelchair accessible and are not recommended for visitors with limited mobility, heart, or back issues.

Certified guide dogs are allowed in all accessible areas.

Additional information

The Dome has 463 steps, and Giotto’s Bell Tower has 414, no elevators are available.

Children under the age of 7 are not allowed to climb the Dome or the Bell Tower. Those between the ages of 7-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dome and Bell Tower entries are self-guided.

Baptistery’s mosaic vaults are under restoration and not visible; it closes at 2pm on the first Sunday of each month.

The Opera del Duomo Museum is closed on the first Tuesday of every month.
