I was curious to know more about the Antarctic and I heard that your centre was the best, so I diceded to visit and experience it. I have been talking with my friends and at work about how magnificent the centre is.

The whole experience. 3D show, the drive in the ice trackor was really good. Information in the theatre. Information on the walls as you go around. Staff very pleasant, informative and helpful.

I received my tickets instantly and it was very easy upon arrival. The attraction itself is super interesting, great for kids as well. A bonus to pat the Huskie dogs outside afterwards!

Arrive at the International Antarctic Center, located next to Christchurch International Airport. Present your ticket at the main entrance, where staff will guide you through initial access and direct you to the core exhibits.

What to expect

Hägglund vehicle ride: Climb aboard a genuine all-terrain Hägglund for a bumpy, off-road adventure that demonstrates how scientists travel across Antarctic ice.

Little Blue Penguins: Meet rescued Kororā, the world’s smallest penguin species, and learn about their conservation.

4D Antarctic experience show: Enjoy a multi-sensory film that combines visual effects, motion, and environmental cues to transport you to the heart of Antarctica.

Husky encounters: Visit the “cuddle zone” to meet friendly huskies, the historic sled dogs of Antarctic expeditions.

This experience is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and most travelers can participate. Children must be over 1.2 meters tall to join the Hägglund ride.

What to bring

Bring a valid photo ID to match the name on your booking if requested at the entrance.

Dress in comfortable clothing and bring a warm layer, as some exhibits simulate cold Antarctic conditions.

Ensure you have your own transportation to the venue, as transfers are not included.

What’s not allowed

Excess luggage and large bags may incur additional charges or may not be permitted inside.

Pets are not allowed, except for registered service animals.

Hägglund rides are not recommended for visitors with heart conditions, back or neck pain, or if pregnant.

Children under 1.2 meters in height are not permitted on the Hägglund ride. All children must be accompanied by an adult for this activity.
