Pro tips to help you make a pick

If you already plan to use a Vienna Pass for several attractions, use it here instead of buying separate entry. Current products include 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, and 6-day Vienna Pass variants, and the museum is listed as an included attraction.

About Imperial Carriage Museum Vienna

Set in former imperial stables and coach houses at Schönbrunn, this museum links its collection directly to the court that used it. Rather than presenting transport history in general, it focuses on Habsburg ceremonial and daily mobility through state coaches, miniature vehicles for imperial children, black funeral coaches, and late-monarchy transport. The route is compact, self-guided, and usually quieter than the main palace.

Did you know?

The museum is part of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien group, so its ticketing and pass inclusion are managed through KHM rather than standard Schönbrunn Palace admission.

Why visit Imperial Carriage Museum Vienna?

State and Coronation Coaches Up Close

The State and Coronation Coaches Gallery brings together the grand vehicles used for coronations, royal entries, and major state ceremonies. Visitors can inspect carving, gilding, coats of arms, upholstery, and crown motifs at close range, details that are often only seen in paintings or at a distance in palace settings.

Imperial Carriage Museum Main Entrance

This is the main public entrance to the museum building within the Schönbrunn complex, signed “Kaiserliche Wagenburg / Imperial Carriage Museum” and reached from the palace courtyard area by following internal signs. All visitors use this entrance, including standalone ticket holders, Vienna Pass users, and groups. Staff scan printed tickets, mobile QR codes, or pass barcodes here; if you are buying on site or resolving a pass issue, this is also the point of contact. Queues are usually short, often walk-in or under 10 to 15 minutes, and any bag check is basic and done at or just inside the entrance. KHM states a general commitment to accessibility, but detailed step-free entrance specifications for this museum are not clearly published.
