What an absolutely wonderful little town! And the walk in the castle and on the walls was really special because you could really walk around the whole town, see it from every angle. Informative boards are placed everywhere, giving you the right amount of history and details of the structures. The entry was very easy, there's a dedicated queue for visitors with already purchased tickets. If you are visiting on a sunny day, don't forget your hat and sunscream, plus wear comfy shoes :)

Ho apprezzato la facilità di ottenere i biglietti e la comunicazione: sono stata infatti informata di un cambiamento di orario (dovuto alle alte temperature) il che mi ha permesso di anticipare la visita

I very much enjoyed my visit to Carcassonne. I strongly suggest people get the guided tours listening machines, it makes a huge difference. When I entered, I didn't know they were available, and stumbled upon the place to get them. I suggest it is promoted more prominently. For 5 Euro I found it made a huge difference to learn more about my visit.

Llegamos a la puerta norte, era in poco pronto y todos los locales estaban abriendo. La cola para entrar al Castillo fue rápida y comenzamos con las Murallas. Son espectaculares, el Castillo me defraudó, es bastante simple porque las zonas que están habilitados tienen poco interés. Por lo demás genial.

Laudioguode est indispensable pour vivre une visite dynamique, intéressante. On ne voit pas le temps passer. Pour être pleinement apprécié ce site avait besoin d'un audio-guide plus facile que de chaque fois s'arrêter poir lire des explications. La circulation etait tres fluide.

Smooth entree, no problems to use the tickets in the email. Don' t bother the meetingpoint suggestion: no need for that if you don't do a tour .

Getting started

Present you mobile ticket at Carcassonne Castle’s main entrance and breeze past the queues. For the walking tour, use your smartphone and headphones to access the audio guide (downloading it in advance is recommended) and explore at your own pace.

This experience combines direct entry to the castle and ramparts with an in-depth walking tour of the city. Use the audio guide to move between 19 narrated stops, from defensive towers to hidden alleys, while uncovering the myths, history, and architecture that define Carcassonne.

What’s not allowed

Pets are not permitted, except for service animals.

Smoking is prohibited inside the castle.

Scooters, bicycles, helmets, non-folding strollers, and bulky luggage are not permitted inside the Château Comtal or along the ramparts.

Entry is free for disabled guests with an accompanying adult, jobseekers (on presentation of a certificate less than 6 months old), and holders of a valid education pass or culture pass.

Carcassonne Castle offers free admission on select days, including the European Heritage Days on 20 & 21 September 2025, and on the first Sunday of January, February, March, November, and December.

To avoid large crowds at the entrance, it is recommended to arrive 1 hour after the monument opens.

The museum will remain closed for safety reasons.
