Arrive at the Helicopter Line Base, situated on the Main Road (State Highway 6), Franz Josef Glacier, 7856 where you will be given a safety briefing by your pilot before you take off on this 20-minute aerial tour of Fox glacier or the Franz Josef glacier. This two-engine helicopter helps access the most beautiful and remote regions of the Southern Alps.

The helicopter will take you up and very close to the water-filled crevasses and towering ice formations. Admire the panoramic views of the glaciers, and the mountains as you receive informative commentary from your pilot. Step out on the pitstop made at the glacier’s snow plains and have your winter wonderland moment. You will get to witness the glory of New Zealand’s highest peak Mt Cook/ Aoraki from the glacial summit before you head back to the base.

Important Information

Infants aged under 4 years are required to sit on the laps of their parents/guardians.

This experience is subjected to good weather conditions. Please wear warm clothing and sturdy covered shoes to ensure no snow enters your body.

Children who weigh 15kgs and above are given their own seats.

While phones and cameras are allowed on this flight, iPads, and selfie sticks are prohibited for safety reasons.

The closest bus stop is Franz Josef. It is a quick 1-minute walk to the departure location.

Buses Greymouth-Fox Glacier and Queenstown-Franz Josef will get you there.

By Car

From Greymouth, take route along SH 6 and you will reach the location in about 2.5 hours.
